1. Introduction
The Landscaping department, together with the Learning Innovation and Development department at Holmesglen, are working on a government-funded program to support digital learning.
This document provides tips on how to bookmark the Moodle login and how to resize images. It can be used in conjunction with the ‘Digital evidence collection guide for students’.
2. Save/bookmark the Holmesglen learning space login page
How to bookmark
You can save/bookmark the login page as a favourite. The following example uses an iPhone.
Step 1Select the arrowed icon at the bottom of your browser.
Step 2
Select the Bookmark icon.
Step 3
Select the blank field above the website address.
Step 4
Name your link in the box that appears. Use something relevant to the page, such as ‘Holmesglen learning space’. Select Done.
Step 5
Select Save to save your new bookmark.
3. Reducing image size
There are free Apps available to reduce the size of an image. The iPhone App is called Simple Resize and the Android App is called Reduce Photo Size.
Using the Simple Resize (iPhone) App to reduce image size
Step 1Install the Simple Resize App on your iPhone.
Step 2
Open the App and select Library.
Use Library to select the image you want to reduce.
Step 3
Select a size bubble to the left of the scale to reduce the image’s size.
Select Save to save a smaller version of your image and use this one to upload.
Using the Reduce Photo Size (Android) App to reduce image size
Step 1Install the Reduce Photo Size App on your Android phone.
You start by either:
· selecting an image that you’ve already taken as a photo
OR
· taking a photo in the App.
If you are selecting an image skip to Step 4.
Step 2
If you are taking a photo in the App, your camera will load.
Take a photo.
Step 3
Discard (delete) any photos that are of no use and save a photo when you are happy with it.
Step 4
Now you can see the size of the raw photo is over 2 MB.
Select Reduce to make the file a smaller size.
Step 5
Choose either option at 1024 x 768 dimensions.
Step 6
Now you can see the image file has been reduced to 84 KB
(20 times less than the original file size).
Step 7
Share to your Dropbox or Save as to save the new file on your phone.
Step 8
When saving the file, give it a name that makes sense so you can find it easily later.
Repeat the process so far, saving each of the photos for your activity task.
Step 9
When you are choosing photos to add to your assignment online, select each file you want by opening your Android system.
Step 10
Finally, select My files to find the folder where the App saves the photos and select your photo.
This folder is called ‘ReducePhotoSize’
(mnt/sdcard/ReducePhotoSize).
