Lehigh Valley Zoo Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: As a Lehigh Valley Zoo volunteer you will be serving our guests at various points throughout their zoo experience. Your primary focus is to provide an exceptional zoo experience to each guest while maintaining a polite and professional demeanor.

Location: Lehigh Valley Zoo; 5150 Game Preserve Road, Schnecksville, PA, 18078

KeyResponsibilities:

•Show up for scheduled shifts on time. If you are unable to make it to your shift, notify your Volunteer Manager as soon as possible to ensure the shift is able to be covered.

•Upon arrival/departure for the volunteer’s scheduled shifts, they will need to sign in/out at the front office.

• Show up for your scheduled shifts dressed in appropriate attire. (See “Dress Code” section.)

•Greet each guest and direct them to offices, exhibits, or other zoo locations.

•Politely answer questions about the zoo, exhibits, animals, etc. and provide directions when necessary. If unable to answer a question, point them in the direction of someone who can.

•Make sure you are managing your activity/station/exhibit in a professional and polite manor.

•Other duties as assigned.

TheLengthofService: The Lehigh Valley Zoo offers a variety of timeframes for volunteer service. A volunteer can discuss their scheduling preferences/restrictions with the Volunteer Manager to determine a timeframe for their volunteer service.

TimeCommitment: While we are able to be flexible, we ask our volunteers to try to make a minimum one day per week commitment. A lengthier commitment may be required if a volunteer desires to contribute at a specific event/activity.

Qualifications: Professional manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability.

Support: Training for this position will be provided. The Volunteer Manager as well as other Team Leaders will be available for questions and assistance.

AgeRequirement: Independent Volunteer: 13+ years old

*Any volunteer that is under the age of 13 MUST be accompanied for the duration of service by their parent or legal guardian.*

DressCode:

Volunteers are expected to dress “family friendly”. Expectations include an appropriately cut shirt with NO questionable graphics/text and appropriate length pants or shorts. Closed-toe shoes are a must (no flip flops/sandals.) All volunteer stations are outdoors so volunteers are expected to dress weather appropriate.

Any volunteer failing to meet the dress code requirements must be able to resolve the issue or they will be sent home.
