The Great Gatsby Newspaper Assignment
You will complete a newspaper article based on what you have learned from the novel about the 1920s. You may assemble your newspaper article using a computer program, or you may create mock-up by cutting and pasting the typed article and images to a newspaper page.
Choose one of the below options for your newspaper article.
1. News
-Write a news story featuring a major historical event that occurred during the 1920s.
OR
-Write a fictionalized news story based on details from The Great Gatsby.
2. Advertising
Create your own fictionalized advertisements based on details described in The Great Gatsby about the 1920s. Include a "classified" or "personals" section on your advertisement page.
*Include all of the parts found on the advertisements page of a newspaper including the newspaper name, date, pictures and captions, etc. Examine a current newspaper for examples. You must include a total of FOUR advertisements on your page.
3. Obituaries
-Write one full-length obituary featuring a prominent figure from the 1920s.
OR
-Write one fictionalized obituary based on details from The Great Gatsby.
*Include all of the parts found on the obituary page of a newspaper including the abbreviated death notices. Examine a current newspaper for examples.
4. Sports
-Write one sports story featuring a major event in the 1920s discovered from research.
*Include all of the parts found on the sports page of a newspaper including the newspaper name, date, headlines, pictures and captions, etc. Examine a current newspaper for examples.
5. Lifestyle
-Write one lifestyle (fashion, entertainment, etc.) article based on details from The Great Gatsby.
*Include all of the parts found on the lifestyle page of a newspaper including the newspaper name, date, headlines, pictures and captions, etc. Examine a current newspaper for examples.
