Leflore Magnet High School
Algebra I Course Syllabus
2016-2017
Welcome to Ms. Shamburger’s Prerequisite Algebra 1. This will be an exciting year as I will be preparing your child to become successful in my classroom. During this academic year, I feel it is important to keep the lines of communication open, so feel free to contact me at (251)221-3125 should you have any questions and/or concerns. My planning time is during the 2nd period from 8:45 – 10:40. While math is an extremely important subject, I also want you to enjoy learning, so our class will encompass a variety of technological and hands-on activities.
Objective
This course is designed to meet the Common Core State Standards and the ACT objectives for Algebra 1 mathematics. The objectives/ domains to be covered this academic year are as follows: (1) The Number System, (2) Expressions and Equations, (3) Functions, (4) Geometry, and (5) Statistics and Probability.

Class Requirements

Grading
- Homework…………………………………………………………5%
- Classwork……………………………………………..…………..15%
- Quizzes…………………………………………………………….20%
- Tests/ Major Projects………………………………..……………..60%
Some form of assessment will be administered every Friday. Major tests will be administered at the end of each week. At the end of every quarter, each student will take an EQT that will count for 20% of their final quarter grade. The other 80% of the grade will come from the quarter average calculated from the above percentages.
Absences
Students are expected to be in class daily and on time. Make-up work will only be accepted for grading from students with excused absences. Students may obtain any missing notes and assignments from me when they return back to school. Make-up tests must be completed with a week of the student returning, and must be completed at school. Major tests will be assigned in advance, so an absence on the day before of the test does not excuse the student from taking it on the day of their return. Homework will be due the day the student returns.
