Collaboration is the Key: We Get By With a Little Help From Our Friends!
Session description

"It takes a village..." has never been more true than when serving homeless students. With the reality of dwindling school resources comes the need to seek collaborative programs that can meet students' needs. This session will highlight several initatives that can be replicated in other districts. We will present information on how to organize programs that provide SNAP benefits to unaccompanied youth, look at a model Uniform Recycling Program, and discuss the use of college interns in schools. We will also present a collaboration with the City of Waco that provides free city bus rides to secondary students.

This presentation highlights collaborative programs with community service providers, faith-based organizations, local colleges, the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition, and the City of Waco. We will speak specifically about "best practices" and collaborative programs that benefit child welfare and unaccompanied youth. These programs can work together with school districts to meet homeless students' needs.
