One-Page Flyer Project
Choosing a Poster Template
- Under Publishing Layout View, choose Flyers to display the different template choices.
- Click the Photo Flyer, and click choose.
- Click the Zoom Slider (bottom left corner) and decrease the view by sliding the slider to the left to equal 62%.
Customizing Text
Now that you have the template opened you can enter your own information. Notice that there are placeholders using a standard Latin text called “Loremipsum,” The text is used to that you can visually see how the finished text will appear on the page.
- Double-click the flyer title and replace the text with Butterfly Garden.
- Replace the flyers’sinformation at the bottom of the page. Double-click Organizationto highlight it, and type Smoky Valley Middle School Science Club.
- Select the text and change the size to 16 pt.
- Double-click the phone number placeholder text and type (785)227-4249.
- Select the text and change the size to 16 pt.
- Select the text box with Organization information.
- Hold down the shift key and click the text box with the phone number.
- Use the arrow key on the keyboard to move the text boxes down one space.
- Double-click the flyer’s subtitle and type Garden Project.
- Double-click the large text box to select the entire placeholder text.
- Type the following information into the poster template.
Come see some of the most beautiful creatures on Earth on our relaxing butterfly garden. Our students have researched and designed a garden with the right plants and lowers to attract all of the beautiful butterflies in our area.
The garden itself is also a great way to explore the local plants in our region. Stroll peacefully and relax with nature. The garden is free to visit and is open daily from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for the months of April and May.
- Click the text with the words Street Address.
- Hold down the Shift key and select the text with the words Date and Time.
- Use the down arrow on the keyboard to move both text placeholders down one space.
- Click the text Garden Project. Use the up arrow key on the keyboard to move the text placeholder up two spaces.
- Click the large text placeholder with the information you just entered.
- Use the up arrow key to move the text placeholder up two spaces.
- Grab the bottom resize handle to expand the text placeholder so that all of the text is visible.
- Place the insertion point after the t in visit and type a period.
- Double-click the placeholder Date and Time.
- Cut and paste the words open daily from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for the months of April and Mayin the Date and Time text placeholder.
- Replace the o in open with a capital letter and center the text.
- Double-click the text placeholder street address and type 401 N Cedar, Lindsborg, KS.
- With the insertion point still in the address text box, look at the font, size, and color displayed in the Format toolbar.
- Select the Date and Time text you just entered and edit the font, size, and color to match the address text.
- Grab the resizing handles to display all of the text in the text box by making the size of the box expand across the page.
- Delete the word and in the large text box.
- Select the text in the large textbox, click the arrow next to the spacing button under the paragraph group of the Home tab and select Line Spacing Options.
- In the window change the spacing to 12 pt. in the After window. The automatically inserts 12 points of space between the two paragraphs.
- Choose File>Save and name the flyer Butterfly Garden Flyer.docx.
Inserting Photos
The template has a photo already placed in the layout. The photo does not relate to the subject of the flyer.
- Click the photo image on the flyer and press Delete.
- Click the arrow next to the Picture button and select the Picture from File option.
- Locate the folder of Butterfly photos and select Butterfly 3, then click Insert.
- Grab the bottom resizing handle to expand the bottom edge of the photo.
- Choose File>Save to save your progress.
Formatting Photos
Photos can be edited under the Format Picture tab when the photo is selected. The tab is not available if the photo is not selected.
- Click the arrow next to the Corrections button.
- In the Sharpen and Soften group, select the button Sharpen: 25% (fourth button in the row).
- Click the arrow next to the Recolor button.
- In the Color Saturation group, select the button Saturation: 66% (third button in the row).
- Save your document. You can compare your final poster layout to the image below.
