Tthe seven Municipalities of the Upper Tagliamento Valley involved in the actions of the pilot case are: Forni di Sopra, Ampezzo, Forni di Sotto, Socchieve, Enemonzo, Preone and Raveo. The local authorities with a greater involvement in the pilot case activities are those of Forni di Sopra and Ampezzo because they are the main towns of the valley;
- the local authorities involved in the actions related to pilot case implementation (Forni di Sopra and Ampezzo, which are the more ones with a greater involvementd in the pilot case activities because they are the main towns of the valley, Forni di Sotto, Socchieve, Enemonzo, Preone and Raveo)
- the very actual final beneficiaries of the outputs of the projects outputs;
Tthe Mountain Community of Carnia
- the Association of the Municipalities of the Carnia mountain territory, including the Upper Tagliamento Valley, which is collaborating with all the other pilot case actors on specific matters related to environmental issues.
MAIN ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT (ANALYSIS, SURVEYS, FOCUS GROUPS ….) / Implementation at a local level of the activities related to the pilot case such as, in particular:
· one customer satisfaction survey was carried out for the area of Forni di Sopra , furthermore a mid-term plan concerning the development of tourism opportunities for tourism connected with the untouched environment of the whole valley has been drafted (they were presented to local authorities and stakeholders on 4th May 2005, in Forni di Sopra to with the aim of being discussed and shared);
· the collection of data collection and the preliminary environmental analysis of the Municipality of Ampezzo to apply for the EMAS Certification has been finalized;
· the first pilot case progress report has been forwarded by the appointed company.
ACHIEVED RESULTS
(UP TO: MONTH/YEAR) ANDDISCREPANCIES
FROM PLANNED ACTIVITIES AND EXPECTED RESULTS / As can be gathered understood by the above- mentioned outputs, the main results that have already been achieved are the following:· setting up of a wide local partnership involving all the local authorities responsible for the selected area and the stakeholders interested in the pilot case issues;
· carrying out of the first steps related toconcerning the definition of the guidelines for obtaining the environmental certification (EMAS) and the touristic promotion of the entire valley;
· starting up of the midterm planning process for a sustainable development of the selected areas.
No discrepancies with the original plan and the expected results haves to been reported until nowso far.

IMPACT ON THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT – ACTORS - STAKEHOLDERS ETC … / Too early to assess impacts, nevertheless, efforts for awareness, communication and involvement have seemed to be fruitful.
MAIN CRITICISMS AND STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING THEM / At the beginning the local authorities and stake-holders of the territory involved shows showed some perplexities about the particular approach proposed within the pilot case.
The constant involvement of local private and public actors and a decision-sharing decision process has, day by day, increased the consensus on the planned aims

ACTIVITIES/METHODOLOGY
ETC ….. / The “case” is generated by the conviction that the exploitation of the natural and urban environment is a decisive aspect in promoting tourism within a territory.
The territorial certification could become an important tool in supporting the quality of tourist reception thus contributing in to forming establishing a widespread awareness of the economic value of environmental quality intended as an element of and an opportunity for development. This approach is quite original and innovative for the mountain area involved.
ASPECTS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST IN OTHER CASE STUDIES IN RELATION TO THE APPROACH – ACTIVITIES - RESULTS – FOLLOW-UP ALSO IN
VIEW OF POTENTIAL FUTURE COLLABORATION OR KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE WITH OTHER PROJECT PARTNERS / The pilot case issue is quite specific and at the momentpresent, only the general aspect - to promote and develop a mountain territory enforcing its appeal by preserving local environmental and natural potentialities - can be shared with other WP/ pilot cases
TITLE AND SYNTHESIS OF THE GOOD/BEST PRACTICES / The “best practices” definition is in progress.
First results are expected to be given at/ready forfor the Scientific Project Conference in Milan.
AnywayIn any case, an Italian initiative (Parco dell’Adamello Brenta) and an Austrian one (Grosses Walser Tal Biosphere Reserve) were visited, analysed and their characteristics were compared with the peculiarities of the mountain area involved in the pilot case
