JOB TITLE:Site Technical Manager / REPORTS TO:Supply Chain Director
DEPUTY:Quality Manager / DEPT:Technical
LOCATION: Arbroath and Grantown on Spey / DATE:19th May 2017
Purpose of Role
To provide site technical leadership, delivering product safety and quality through implementation of the highest technical, production and hygiene standards. To deliver first class service to retail customers, supportingnew product development and innovation.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Quality
  1. Drive quality standards on the site by working closely with all stakeholders.
  2. Manage the supply base including supplier risk assessment and assurance, chain of custody, quality control of incoming fish raw material, ingredients and packaging.
  3. Implement stringent backdoor quality control procedures for fish, ingredients and packaging.
  4. Implement structured taste panels and benchmarking of products.
  5. Manage the quality management system with particular emphasis on a proactive, continuous improvement approach linked to training needs and health and safety.
Compliance
  1. Manage the site food safety control systems including HACCP, date code and labelling and allergen control systems. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these systems.
  2. Lead on internal audits and manage the site internal audit programme, including systems, allergen, HACCP, GMP and hygiene audits.
  3. Report technical KPIs including: customer complaints, non-conformances, GMP scores, micro results, taste panel feedback.
  4. Manage factory specifications, QAS and compliance paperwork.
  5. Manage the site date code and label verification systems.
  6. Manage product testing and surveillance covering product microbiology, environmental and process hygiene monitoring, product nutritional and chemical testing.
Hygiene
  1. Management and co-ordination of hygiene function to ensure that hygiene systems and paperwork are up-to-date and health and safety is in place.
Customer service
  1. Deliver a high level of service to all retail, B2B, food service and export customers by ensuring implementation of customer codes of practice, product quality and adherence to customer product management systems such as Find, TTL, Connect, PLUM.
  2. Ensure compliance to third party and customer planned and unannounced technical / process audits.
  3. Delivery of technical aspects of NPD, including customer specifications, raw material specs, supplier approval, shelf life testing.
People
  1. Effective people management including recruitment, performance management, discipline & grievance, attendance management, and team development.
  2. Any other duties relating to the operation of the Technical Department that are requested by the Technical Director.
Accountabilities
  1. Production of safe and quality products.

  4. Maintain green status for all supplier audits
  5. Efficient and functioning quality management system.

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Technical Leadership role in chilled food
  • Supplier management
  • Degree level qualification in food science or related discipline
  • Experience leading compliance with major retailer systems and COPs
  • Fish processing and fish smoking knowledge
  • Experience customer retail specification packages
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Ability to understand and analyse data to inform decision making
  • Understand and apply CI tools and techniques, including visual management, problem solving, and project management.
