FOR
Major Gifts Administrator
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Director of Fundraising
AIM OF THE JOB:
To support the management, development and expansion of a portfolio of major donors (individuals, corporates and charitable trusts), as part of a major gifts team within the wider fundraising team of the charity.
BASED:
This role will be based at World Horse Welfare’s Head Office in Norfolk but may require some travel, including the charity’s office in Central London, key charity events and possible visits to donors around the UK.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (in conjunction with the charity’s other Major Gifts Administrator):
- Research and manage a programme of applications, renewals and updates to an identified portfolio of Charitable Trusts and Foundations
- Be the primary point for a number of identified major donors, ensuring that they receive an appropriate level of stewardship
- Research and approach new major donor prospects and develop a close liaison with this supporter base to grow sustainable income
- Support the recruitment and retention of major donors to the ‘Chairman’s Circle’, and any regional supporter groups
- Maintain all major gift channels within the fundraising database (Alms.net)
- Manage arrangements for a variety of major donor events
- Represent the charity, as required, at appropriate social and networking events, where major donor prospects may be present
- Work with the UK and international departments to develop and maintain a portfolio of case-for-support documents for use with major donors in the UK and internationally
- Work with the communications team to produce online and offline publications/updates for major donors and associated events, ensuring that branding and messaging are consistent
- Undertake monthly reconciliation of major donor income between the fundraising (Alms.net) and finance (Sage) systems
- To ensure that the charity maximises Gift Aid declarations for major donors, where eligible
- To undertake other job-related tasks to supporter the wider fundraising team or as required by the Director of Fundraising
HEALTH & SAFETY
- To comply with the policies of World Horse Welfare to ensure that risks within the working environment are reduced as low as reasonably practicable
- To raise any health and safety concerns with your Line Manager or the Health & Safety Officer based at Head Office
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Ideally experience in a fundraising or marketing role within a non-profit organisation
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, able to clearly articulate the vision and the work of the charity to donors
- Excellent research skills, with the ability to work to or set a variety of research briefs
- Confident, personable and diplomatic with the ability to deal positively and effectively with some of the charity’s most valuable supporters and also with volunteer leaders and Trustees
- Excellent attention to detail in all aspects of work, including record-keeping and donor communications
- Proficient time management skills able to prioritise a demanding workload and work unsupervised to tight deadlines
- Trustworthy, conscientious and dependable
- A commitment to the vision and objectives of World Horse Welfare
- Equine knowledge is desirable but not essential.
- IT literate – familiarity with the core Windows suite such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint; database experience is advantageous
- The post holder may be required to work outside of normal office hours and must be prepared to travel within the UK and stay away from home when necessary.
