Main purpose of the Job:
Within the guidelines laid down by Management, to support young people in learning how to travel independently.
Key Areas of responsibility
- Part-time role - To work on an annualised hours contract to suit the needs of the travel training service. Term-time 20 hours a week (Core hours are 5 days a week, approximately 6:30 – 9.30am and 3.30 – 4.30pm). These hours are approximate, some degree of flexibility will be required within the role.
- To deliver travel training plans to young people on journeys to/from school/college in real-time (morning and afternoon journeys) to enable them to develop road safety and travel skills
- To adopt a flexible approach to the hours worked in order to attend work related activity, outside core hours, in accordance to the needs of the client and the organisation
- Liaise with travel training co-ordinator /school/parents and carers regularly to monitor and evaluate progress of young people both verbally and in writing
- To participate in risk assessments and maintain good safety procedures for students when out in the community
- To identify, risk assess and follow safe and appropriate journeys for the individual
- To work with the schools identified and liaise with school staff as appropriate
- To keep accurate daily records as required both written and using a computer, adhering to required deadlines.
- To use daily assessments to make decisions about a client’s progress and moving them through the stages of the travel training process and to make recommendations about when a young person is ready and safe to start travelling independently.
- To liaise with parents/carers and other professionals to promote the travel training programme and gain their confidence
- To monitor previous client’s progress, report any concerns to management and maintain professional relationships with families.
- Assist with the planning of travel training plans, including in an accessible format when required
- To work with the travel training co-ordinator to promote independent travel training and raise awareness of the project through group work in schools and attending parent information events
- To manage and record own time and to complete weekly progress reports
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to the smooth running and development of the organisation
- To attend appropriate in house and/or external training and development sessions / days
- To comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures
- To carry out such other duties as the Chief Executive of Balance CiC may from time to time require
