Kimberley Minor Hockey Association

______ORGANIZED IN 1933______

Cranbrook Minor Hockey Executive; April 4th 2012

I am writing in response to the letter received by Kimberley Minor Hockey by the Cranbrook board towards the 2012-2013 player movement agreement. Kimberley Minor Hockey Cannot accept the proposal by CMHA as written.

BC Hockey implemented in the past season a rule that a player must be released by their home association and accepted by the alternate association before a tryout with the alternate association and once released by their home association they are not allowed to be transferred back until the end of the season. This can be avoided by not applying for a player release until the player makes a particular team.

Kimberley minor hockey has been officially told by the City of Kimberley that under no circumstance are we allowed to sublet our ice to anyone including CMHA if we have any ice that we do not use it must go back to the city and they will distribute the unused ice accordingly (Kimberley user groups first).

Kimberley Minor Hockey strongly feels that the player selection process suggested is unconstitutional. This is unfair to a child trying to make the best team possible, by limiting to a certain amount of out of area kids per team regardless of the talent level will only hurt the ones we are building these high level teams for. There is no possible way to do a fair evaluation if you are separating Fernie, Kimberley and Cranbrook kids during an evaluation and then telling a child that he or she didn’t make the team (not because of talent) but (because of where this child’s family lives).

We have come up with a counter offer on the proposal that you had sent to us and would like to attend your April 10th meeting to discuss in person.

Thank you,

Curtis McLaren
