HORIZONTAL COOPERATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2011

The International Cooperation Agency of the Republic of Chile (AGCI) is offering scholarships to nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic, and CARICOM member States: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam and Trinidad & Tobago. Scholarships are open to Professionals with a University degree, whoare also employed as Government Officials of the State of which they are nationals, in Ministries or Public Services, such as academics, teachers or researchers of Universities officially recognized by their respective countries. Applications must be submitted for the following thematic areas:

  • Agricultural Science
  • Regional and Urban planning
  • Economics and Management
  • Education and Teacher Training
  • Technology and Engineering
  • Geography and Geology
  • Medical Sciences
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Criteria for granting scholarships:

  1. Candidates must be presented by public officials or academicsfrom Universities officially recognized by the respective country.
  1. Candidates applying within the priority thematic areas of AGCI defined for this academic period

*Deadline for submitting all completed applications to The Latin American – Caribbean Centre and to send copies to the Chilean Embassy is December 10, 2010.

Interested scholarship applicants must apply directly to the college or higher educationinstitution in Chile for admission to the respective program and receive unconditional acceptance, before starting their application. Only full time applicants will be considered.

All documentation for the scholarship application must be submitted to the Latin American – Caribbean Centre of the University of the West Indies (located on the Mona campus) and the Embassy of Chile in Jamaica.

All documentation for the scholarship must be submitted in hard copy with the original documentation required and properly scanned into digital format on a CD

The previously-mentioned entities are responsible for verifying that applicants meet all the eligibility criteria, as well as making a pre-selection of applicants, whose applications will then be submitted to the AGCI.

Original documents must remain in the possession of applicants and will be required only from those selected, upon arrival in chile. This measure has been set up to expedite the selection process in Chile. However, the embassies will be in charge of advising applicants in fulfilling all requirements.

Applications will not be accepted which have not been officially submitted by the Embassy of Chile in Jamaica, or the Embassy of Chile in Trinidad & Tobago, or the representative from the Latin American – Caribbean Centre of the University of the West Indies (Mona campus), or which are received after the aforementioned deadline.

The final selection results will be communicated by the third week of january 2011.

Studies for which scholarships are awarded may start between March 1 and September 30,2011 and will only be granted for Masters Studies.
