The Asheville Downtown Association is a membership organization focused on promoting and supporting quality economic, cultural and residential development of Downtown Asheville. We do that through advocating for issues important to downtown and programming special events to bring residents and visitors to downtown. Events include Downtown After 5, Easter on the Green, the Independence Day Celebration, Asheville Oktoberfest and the Asheville Holiday Parade.

We’re looking to focus on smaller scale events to provide a new and unique activity for locals to attend. This is our first time producing an event of this kind, and depending on its reception, it may take place around downtown at different times of year.

About: Downtown Digital is a one-night showcase of digital media, taking place on Thursday, April 16 at the Center for Craft, Creativity Design’s outdoor parking venue. This will be an opportunity to showcase student, emerging and professional digital work in an outdoor venue. Digital artwork will be pre-loaded and looped during the event.

The Space: The projection will be on display at the outdoor, covered parking deck connected to the Center for Craft, Creativity Design at 67 Broadway Street in Downtown Asheville ( Projections will be displayed on brick on the north wall of the parking lot. Artwork will be pre-uploaded on a PC computer and projection is on an Optoma EH 500 ( Some seating will be available and attendees may enter in and out of the space during the event. A sound system will be provided if your work requires sound. Silent projections may be accompanied by music.

Criteria for Judging: Judges from the art community and the Asheville Downtown Association will select entries based on quality of work, creativity, and overall fit in the display. Artwork not selected may have opportunities to be shown at another event during the year.

Accepted artists will receive:

  • Marketing and PR for the event and artists provided by the Asheville Downtown Association
  • An opportunity to show work to a new audience
  • The opportunity to engage with the general public
  • Potential to display work at other downtown digital media presentations
