Areas of Study for 2016 Class Challenge: 8th Grade
Ø Know the names, capitals, and locations of all of the 50 U.S. states
Ø Know the capitals of England, France, Italy, South Korea, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Australia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, Iraq, Haiti, Cuba, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, The Philippines, and be able to identify them on an outline map.
Ø Know the number, names, locations of the world’s continents and oceans, and the largest and smallest of each, including the Southern Ocean.
Ø Know which three countries make up the majority of the continent of North America and the capitals of each.
Ø Know the name and location of the Catholic church’s capital (Vatican City, which is located within the city of Rome in the country of Italy, in Europe)
Ø Know the name of the longest river, largest lake, and highest mountain in the United States. Know in what state the highest U.S. mountain peak is located
Ø Know the name of the longest river, largest lake, largest desert, highest mountain in the world and the continent where each is located
Ø Know the largest and smallest U.S. state, southernmost U.S. state, the northern- most U.S. state, the most and least populous U.S. states
Ø Know the longest mountain range, highest mountain peak, longest river, largest lake, and largest desert on each continent.
Ø Know the name and capital of the largest country in the world.
Ø Know the number, names, and locations of the Great Lakes
Ø Know the name of the river that forms part of the border between Mexico and the United States
