Cale Green Primary School
Year 4- Theme 2- Location, location, location
English Link up
We will start the second theme by finishing the non-fiction unit of work based on our visit to Chester Zoo. We will then be moving on to a fiction based piece of work in the lead up to Christmas. In January we will then be working on poetry and non-fiction again.
Maths Link up
Maths for this theme will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will continue to learn how to tell the time. There is still a watch missing from school so please could you check with your child to check it’s not in their school bag in error.
Cross Curricular Links
Year 4 will locate the countries of the world using maps. The focus is on Europe concentrating on environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities.
Science
Year 4 will learn to recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light. They will notice that light is reflected from surfaces. They should recognise that light from the sun can be dangerous and that there are ways to protect their eyes. In addition, they should recognise that shadows are formed when the light from a light source is blocked by a solid object and find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change.
As ever, we will continue to have Mrs Nelson coming into school on Wednesdays to do guitar lessons and will be continuing with our French studies, focusing on the weather, food and drink and animals.

Homework
Homework is handed out on a Monday to be handed back in on a Friday. This will include spellings, grammar and maths. They will have online ‘My Maths’ where the children should aim to get over 90%. In addition, Y4 will have guitar homework on a weekly basis.
Reading
Please encourage your child to read a little of their reading book each school evening. If they can read to a grown up as well, this would be an additional bonus. Don’t forget the Reading Bingo which will give Year 4 a new range of books to enjoy during the year.
Spellings
A reminder about the strategy for learning spellings: Look-Cover- Write-Check.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to find me on the playground before or after school.
