Essential / DesirableRelevant Qualifications /
- Childcare/NVQ qualification Level 3
- GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Further qualifications in support of the work of a Learning Mentor such as Level 4 NVQ (Learning Mentor) or counselling.
Work Related Experience /
- Proven recent successful experience working within a primary school setting.
Relevant Experience /
- Ability to deliver programmes of work aimed at fostering social skills.
- Experience of a range of Social Skills programmes.
Key areas for Learning Mentor /
- Experience in building positive, helpful relationships and communicating effectively with pupils and their families or carers.
- Experience of working with children with attachment needs
- Experience of supporting pupil’s Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
- Experience of working in collaboration with outside agencies to ensure pupil’s Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Well-being.
- Knowledge of the outside agencies who are able to provide support to families
- Knowledge of a wide range of strategies used to support pupil’s Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and young people
- Ability to work 1 to 1 withpupils
- Ability to work with small groups of pupils
- Ability to plan, deliver, observe, evaluate, and report the impact and progress of programmes of work
- Ability towork in collaboration with the SENCO, teachers and outside agencies, including advisory teachers, Educational Psychologists and CAMHS.
- Good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
- Good level of word processing skills
- Good people skills and sensitivity to the needs of others
- Ability to be a patient, supportive listening ear
- Able to work as a team member but also work independently at other times.
- Ability to oversee and develop the Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Well-being of pupils during morning and lunchtime playtimes.
- Have the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with the whole school community and the wider community partnerships.
- Have the ability to plan time effectively and organise oneself well.
- Have self-confidence enthusiasm and integrity.
- A sound knowledge of basic word processing
- Enhanced DBS clearance before commencement of post.
