A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTOL REVEREND DONALD E. CHANEY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN PASTORING AND PROVIDING LEADERSHIP TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Reverend Donald E. Chaney was born to Dr. William E. Chaney and the late Dr. Florence Williams Chaney and is a graduate of Sumter High School; and
Whereas, after graduation, Reverend Chaney actively served in the United States Navy for four years and is currently a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserves where he serves as a Chaplain; and
Whereas, Reverend Chaney is a 1994 graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration; and
Whereas, after being called to the ministry, Reverend Chaney attended Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1999. Reverend Chaney is presently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Pastoral Counseling at the University of Sarasota in Florida; and
Whereas, the former minister of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Eastover, Reverend Chaney is the pastor at Springhill Baptist Church of Eutawville and also serves as a Chaplain at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia; and
Whereas, Reverend Chaney is involved in an array of activities including the NAACP, the Opportunities Industrialization Centers of Sumter, the Baptist E and M Convention of South Carolina, the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., and the South Carolina Congress of Christian Education; and
Whereas, in addition to his many other involvements, Reverend Chaney is an adjunct professor of Religion and Theology at Benedict College in Columbia and a member of the Majority Baptist Church in Florence where his father is the Senior Pastor; and
Whereas, Reverend Chaney is married to Avis O’Bryant Chaney and is the father of two children, Morgan and Donald the second; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the General Assembly recognize Reverend Donald E. Chaney for his outstanding contributions to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extol Reverend Donald E. Chaney for his outstanding community involvement in pastoring and providing leadership to the people of the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Donald E. Chaney.
