Task Description:
Students conduct an investigation in pairs to find out about friction as a force that slows moving objects. They are required to:
- design an experiment using the material they had been provided with (four surfaces, metre rulers, marbles and a 30 cm ruler to use as a runway for the marble)
- predict the outcomes of the experiment
- conduct the experiment and record the observations
- communicate the method, results and conclusion in a report (individually)
Procedure:
- design an experiment using the material they had been provided with (four surfaces, metre rulers, marbles and a 30 cm ruler to use as a runway for the marble)
- predict the outcomes of the experiment
- conduct the experiment and record the observations
- individuallycommunicate the method, results and conclusion in a report (students may communicate the method, results and conclusion digitally e.g. flipcam, storyboard).
Resources:
- Four surfaces
- Metre rulers
- Marbles
- 30 cm ruler to use as a runway for the marble
