Re: 2014 - 2015 All Delco Reads Program
This year, the Delaware County Reading Council and Delaware County Intermediate Unit are initiating a county-wide schools/community literacy program. The theme-based project is designed to engage readers to read well-crafted literature in order to heighten interest in reading and to involve them in discussions and activities related to the books.
The 2014-2015 theme is Ordinary People Can Change the World. Books have been selected for four specific levels. Reading Matters will be selling the books at a discount directly to schools; an order form is included with this correspondence if you wish to purchase the books through Reading Matters. The enclosed guidelines provide specific details related to the All Delco Reads Program.
A suggested time line for registration and participation follows:
October/November 2014 - Purchase books (Order form enclosed*).
Order forms should be sent directly to Reading Matters (address on form).
– Schools should register on our website (www.dciu.org/dcrc) by November 26th. Those schools that register will receive a certificate of participation.
January 2015 – Read the book for your level. Teachers read-alouds at the
elementary grades are suggested.
February – March 2015 – Schools and/or individuals should post a picture representing their participation on DCRC’s Facebook page.
March 2015 – Certificates will be sent to participating schools.
March – June 2015 – Schools and libraries should celebrate their groups’ participation as culminating activity if desired.
*A limited number of school grants for $100 is available through DCRC when applied for by November 3rd. The order form with complete information should be sent to Dr. Sue Kulp, Eddystone School, 1410 E. Ninth St., Eddystone, PA 19033. Grant recipients will be notified by e-mail as soon as your application is approved.
We look forward to your participation during the first year of All Delco Reads as well as in subsequent years.
Sincerely,
Annemarie B. Jay
President, DCRC
