RMIT Business is one of the largest Business Schools in Australia and is based at 239 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s Central Business District. Established in 1944 it is now the largest Faculty at RMIT University with around 480 staff working with approximately 17,500 students in Australia and overseas. OFFICE OF THE DEAN

The Office of the Dean fulfils a range of corporate functions for the Faculty. It provides all information technology & multimedia services, support for online delivery, commercialisation and international operations, training and consultancy services. Other Groups operating within the Office of the Dean include the Research Development Unit and Transport Research Centre

UNDERGRADUATE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM UNIT

The UPDP Unit, located in the Office of the Dean, is primarily responsible for the development and running of the industry-linked Professional Skills Program undertaken by students enrolled in Bachelor of Business degrees who for one reason or another do not obtain a work-based (Cooperative Education) placement.

  1. JOB SUMMARY

The Administrative Officer of the Undergraduate Professional Development Programs (UPDP) Unit is responsible for the administrative functions, provides support and advice to the Unit in its operations. The position will also be responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of the Unit’s Internet presence.

5.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Administrative Officer reports to the Manager, UPDP Unit and, where appropriate, takes direction from the Co-ordinator of the Professional Skills Programs (PSP) and the UPDP Unit Lecturer/s.

6.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Position Accountabilities

6.1To assist with the production of course material and handbooks for the Professional Skills Program.

6.2To liaise with industry supporters and with external and internal clients of the Unit and Faculty.

6.3To assist the Unit in developing the content of its website, including monitoring and updating its online activities, in conjunction with RMIT Business Online.

6.4To support students on the Unit’s programs and administer their access to its website and other Internet services as required.

6.5To coordinate and participate in the student orientation sessions relating to the Unit.

Corporate Accountabilities
6.6To liaise with other University staff, who are involved in the development of the RMIT online community

6.7To stay informed about new developments in available internet technologies, especially the design and construction of web sites, with specific regard to the development of educational web sites

6.8To stay informed about online educational developments that are occurring both within, and external to, the University

6.10To contribute to the strategic direction setting and policy making processes of the University and the Section by participating in key Group, Section and University forums and undertaking specific Section level project/tasks

6.11To assume joint responsibility for career development by actively participating in various activities (mentoring, job rotation, secondments and joint group projects) and producing a jointly agreed development plan identifying key areas which will assist in your personal and professional development. These activities should be consistent with the Group’s Strategic Goals.

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory:Relevant Undergraduate Degree/Diploma, or equivalent, in a business discipline including experience in work integrated learning, industry or University administration

Preferred:A Degree/Graduate Diploma in an information technology-related area, particularly one with an Internet focus.

8.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

8.1Extensive relevant experience in work integrated learning programs and/or Industry or University administration.

8.2Proven ability to liaise with people at all levels within the University and externally.

8.3Excellent written and oral communication, including problem-solving skills.

8.4Proven ability to relate to student needs.

8.5Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and work to deadlines.

8.6Knowledge of the University’s administration systems.

8.7Familiarity with using the Internet, and the ability to use web development software in the design and implementation of web-based services and web content.

8.8A general familiarity with a variety of applications, software and operating systems, the ability to perform software installation and trouble-shooting.

9.OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

To undertake such duties as required by the Manager, Undergraduate Professional Development Programs Unit or, where appropriate, by the Co-ordinator of the Professional Skills Program.
