EarthQuaker Devices to Release Westwood Translucent Drive Manipulator January 10, 2018

Akron, Ohio - The following information is NOT public and may NOT be shared until January 10, 2018.

Extra special effects pedal manufacturer EarthQuaker Devices will release the Westwood Translucent Drive Manipulator on January 10, 2018.

Westwood is a mild-mannered light- to medium-gain translucent overdrive manipulator that’ll still knock the socks right off your trusty low-wattage combo amp, pushing it into anything from cutting, edge-of-breakup rhythm tones, all the way to articulate, singing lead tones stacked high with pleasing even-order harmonics and sweet, sweet sustain. Its powerful active EQ section has up to 20dB of cut and/or boost at 80Hz and 2kHz.

The Westwood’s Drive control sets the level of gain for a near-clean boost at lower settings, to rich, bell-like jangle and chime, all the way to soaring lead tones that are cutting and distinct, but never harsh. The Westwood responds to changes in guitar volume at any setting, and varying the intensity of your pick attack reveals the subtle nuances of your technique and tone.

The powerful active EQ section has controls for Treble and Bass with up to 20 dB of cut and/or boost. Center-detent pots indicate the “flat” setting. When you feel a click, there is neither cut nor boost, and your tone remains unaltered, but with extra gain.

Treble affects the area around 2kHz and is handy for taming icepick-y single coils, or giving humbuckers a lift to add an uncompressed, open, and airy top end sparkle.

Westwood’s Bass control operates around 80Hz and can be used to tighten up the low end of an already dark sounding guitar, or if turned up, will soften your attack, and introduce tube-like sag for a “browned out” sound with plenty of woody, organic bottom end thump that’ll make chords thick and chunky, while single notes bloom with ringing sustain.

Westwood will be available at EarthQuaker Devices dealers worldwide on January 10, 2018.

EarthQuaker Devices to Release Updates to Avalanche Run, the Depths, Hoof Reaper, Rainbow Machine, and Spatial Delivery January 10, 2018

Akron, Ohio - The following information is NOT public and may NOT be shared until January 10, 2018.

Extra special effects pedal manufacturer EarthQuaker Devices will release updates to its popular Avalanche Run, the Depths, Hoof Reaper, Rainbow Machine, and Spatial Delivery pedals on January 10, 2018.

The company’s flagship stereo reverb and delay, Avalanche Run, will receive a new custom-built enclosure and updated stereo reverb imaging, courtesy of an update to its proprietary DSP algorithm.

The Rainbow Machine, a polyphonic pitch shifting modulator for experimenters and purists alike, will receive circuit updates for a lower noise floor, higher output, and a recalibrated Magic control for more controllable oscillations and a wider range of available sounds. In addition, both footswitches have been converted to silent relay-based flexi switch switching, for effortless operation and the ability to use the Rainbow Machine’s Activate and Magic features as a momentary effect. For standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass. For momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed.

Also receiving flex function switching are the Depths vibrato, Spatial Delivery envelope filter with sample and hold, and the Hoof Reaper, which will receive flexi switch control over its analog octave feature.

Avalanche Run v2, the Depths v2, Hoof Reaper v2, Rainbow Machine v2, and Spatial Delivery v2 will be available at EarthQuaker Devices dealers worldwide on January 10, 2018.

The complete list of features is below:

Avalanche Run v2

  • Stereo Reverb and Delay with Tap Tempo
  • Proprietary DSP algorithm for lush reverb and delay
  • Stereo inputs and outputs
  • Up to 2 seconds of delay time
  • True Bypass and Trails switching with option for sound-on-sound
  • Normal / Reverse / Swell delay modes
  • Ratio selector switch subdivides Tap Tempo for quarter notes, dotted eighths, quarter note triplets, eighth notes, eighth note triplets, or sixteen notes.
  • EXP selector switch allows for expression control of reverb decay time, reverb mix, delay time, delay repeats, delay mix, or Normal/Reverse mode toggle.
  • In Normal and Swell modes, holding down the Tap switch stacks delay repeats for self-oscillation
  • In Reverse mode, holding down the Tap switch momentarily switches the delay to Normal mode. Release the Tap switch to return to Normal mode.
  • Updated reverb algorithm for improved stereo imaging*
  • New custom-built enclosure*
  • 24-bit 96kHz A/D and D/A converters
  • 115dB signal-to-noise ratio
  • True bypass
  • Silent relay-based switching
  • All-analog dry signal path
  • All-digital wet signal path with 20 Hz - 20kHz frequency response
  • Lifetime guarantee
  • Current draw: 425mA

The Depths v2

  • Optical Vibrato
  • Lush, pulsating, three-dimensional vintage pitch-shifting vibrato tones with modern accoutrements
  • Optimized for use with all electric instruments and to stack with overdrive/fuzz pedals
  • Unique “Throb” control adds a hefty subharmonic low-end pulse to the vibrato signal, which is especially useful on synthesizers and the bass guitar.
  • Level control has tons of output on tap to combat perceived volume loss common with vibrato pedals, and may even be used as a clean boost!
  • May be powered at 9v or 18v. Using the Depths at 18v results in a stiffer tone with more headroom and sparkle.
  • True Bypass
  • New flexi switch silent relay based switching allows for traditional latching or momentary operation*
  • All-analog dry signal path
  • All-analog wet signal path
  • Lifetime guarantee
  • Current draw: 35mA

  • Octave
  • Analog octave up
  • Playing below the 12th fret, adds overtones and crunch
  • Above the 12th fret, a more pronounced Hendrix-like octave appears
  • Hoof, Reaper, and Octave footswitches upgraded for silent relay-based switching*
  • Octave switch updated with new flexi switch silent relay based switching for traditional latching or momentary operation*
  • True Bypass
  • All-analog signal path
  • Lifetime guarantee
  • Current draw: 6mA
  • MAP: $299 USD
  • Each and every Hoof Reaper is built by hand in Akron, Ohio, USA

Rainbow Machine v2

  • Polyphonic Pitch Shifting Modulator
  • Totally not for purists or “tone hounds”
  • Bright pink enclosure
  • Capable of polyphonic harmonies from a perfect 4th below the input, up to a major 3rd above the input, plus chorus and pitch shifted echo tones.
  • “Secondary” control adds an additional octave above or below the harmony
  • “Magic” control introduces regeneration / feedback of the wet signal for wild pitch take offs and descents, chaos chorusing, shrieks, pixie trails and wealth of other general mayhem inducing noises.
