Last Week’s Meeting : Ian Wishart – Plan Australia

/ Ian Wishart form Plan Australia, was the guest speaker for the evening. Ian was introduced by Nunawading member Gordon Ireland who has been involved with Plan for many years. Ian is the CEO for Plan Australia and came to the job with years of experience in International Aid organisations inkling World Vision. He has travelled to many of the trouble spots in the world at times of crisis. Plan is one of the leading international aid agencies and because it has no religious or political affiliations it can go into some areas that other agencies cannot.

Plan, also known as Foster Parents Plan in some countries, is a child-oriented charity, and works in 46 countries to provide programs to 1.3 million children and their families. It was originally founded by journalist John Langdon-Davies. It is active primarily in developing countries in Central and South America, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia, with a staff of over 6,000 worldwide, and a further volunteer force in excess of 50,000. Plan operates long-term to address health, education, shelter, and livelihood issues in the communities in which it operates.Plan operates on the basis of sponsorship of individual children. Benefactors can correspond with the child they 'adopt' by mail, thus creating a personal bond between donor and child. The sponsorship system ensures that the sponsors can see what their money is going towards, and know that it is properly spent. Sponsorship aims to raise awareness about, as well as funds for, the communities Plan works with. However the funds do not end up in the child's pocket for safety reasons – they are used to finance projects that benefit the entire community in which the child lives, this offers the opportunity of school and health services to the sponsor child, as well as their community

Plan is not just about international aid but strives to increase the communities awareness of the issues causing poverty in much of the world. It was a key player in the “make Poverty History” campaign working with people like Bono to engage politicians and the general population to work towards overcoming some of the barriers for whole populations getting out of the poverty cycle. Plan is proud that approximately 80% of the money raised by the organisations is spent on the people it serves with only 20% in administrative costs making it one of the more efficient organisations running international programs.

FUNNIES

Another Blonde Joke

A blind man wanders into a lesbian biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a drink. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender,

"Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?"

The bar immediately falls absolutely quiet. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.

2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.

3. I'm a 6 foot tall, 175 lb. blonde woman with a black belt in karate.

4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weightlifter.

5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, mister Do you still wanna tell that joke?

"The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,

"Nah... not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."

E-mail on Last Day @ Work
Subject : Im outta here ..... ;.)

My leaving letter:
Dear Co-Workers,
As many of you probably know, tommorw is my last day. But before I leave, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what a great and distinct pleasure it has been to type "Tommorow is my last day."
For nearly as long as I've worked here, I've hoped that I might one day leave this company. And now that this dream has become a reality, please know that I could not have reached this goal without your unending lack of support. Words cannot express my gratitude for the words of gratitude
you did not express. I would especially like to thank all of my managers: in an age where
miscommunication is all too common, you consistently impressed and inspired me with the sheer magnitude of your misinformation. It takes a strong man to admit his mistake - it takes a stronger man to attribute his mistake to me.

Over the year and a half, you have taught me more than I could ever ask for and, in most cases, ever did ask for. I have been fortunate enough to work with some absolutely interchangeable supervisors on a widevariety of seemingly identical projects - an invaluable lesson in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium.
Your demands were high and your patience short, but I take great solaceknowing that my work was, as stated on my annual review, "mostly satisfactory." That is the type of praise that sends a man home happy
after even a 10 hour day, smiling his way through half a bottle of mostly satisfactory scotch.
And to most of my peers: even though we barely acknowledged each other within these office walls, I hope that in the future, should we pass on the street, you will regard me the same way as I regard you: sans eye contact. But to those few souls with whom I've actually interacted, here are my
personalized notes of farewell:

To Caulfield: I will always remember sharing lunch with you, despite having clearly labeled it with my name.
To Mairead: I will miss detecting your flatulence as much as you will clearly miss walking past my cubicle to deliver it.
To Linda: Best wishes on your ongoing campaign to popularize these "email forwards." I sincerely hope you receive that weekend full of good luck, that hug from an old friend, and that baby for your dusty womb.
And finally, to Kat: you were right - I tested positive. We'll talk later.
So, in parting, if I could pass on any word of advice to the individual who will soon be filling my position, it would be to cherish this experience like a sponge and soak it up like a good woman, because
a job opportunity like this comes along only once in a lifetime. Meaning: if I had to work here again in this lifetime, I would sooner kill myself.
Very truly yours,
PS: I will be throwing myself a happy hour farewell party at the Oden 5.30 tommorow evening if anybody is interested in drinks!
