D. Writing:

Describing a celebration:

Write a description of one of the popular celebrations in Vietnam (e.g. Mid-Autumn festival, National Independence Day, Teachers’ day, Women’s day, ect.). your description should include the following main points:

Name of the festival

Time of the festival

Purpose of the festival

Main activities of the festival

Your feeling about the festival (whether you like it or not and the reason(s))

EVALUATION

* Good points:

- There are suggestions about main ideas for the writing -> Ss can write based on those main ideas.

* Weak points:

- The instruction is not clear -> Ss can describe the celebration in the form of reporting, writing a letter,...based on each student.

-  Lack of communication and interaction.

ADAPTATION:

* Aim:

+ After the lesson Ss can write a description about celebrations.

+ To encourage Ss' interaction and communication.

* PROCEDURE

Task 1: T asks the whole class to brain storm the network. When describing the festival what do people tell? With given word: ‘festival”

Task 2: T gives out a picture of Mid-Autumn festival and elicits the picture:

Do you know this festival? What is it name?

When does it happen?

Why do people organize it?

What are activities in this festival?

Do you like festival? Why or why not?

Task 3: asks Ss to fill in the gap of paragraph:

Mid – Autumn festival is one of the popular celebrations….. (1). This celebration falls on…. (2). It is the time when…. (3). Children wear… (4). Almost of children like this festival very much.

1.  In Vietnam.

2.  The 14th day of the 8th lunar month.

3.  People celebrate the largest full moon in the year.

4.  Masks, parade in the street, have parties with special cakes and lots of fruits.

Task 4: work in group. T divides the class into 5 groups. T gives each group a picture. Then asks each group to discuss and introduces the festival in the picture in front of the class without giving the name of festival. Other groups guest name of that festival. Use the task 3 as suggestion.

Task 5: In your home town, there is a special festival which you want to tell friends in our country. Write a paragraph describing that festival to send to “Hoa hoc tro’ newspaper.
