Mr. Fernando P. Arendain attended CPU as a work student and obtained the BSC degree major in Accounting in 1961. In 1969 he went to the United States where he worked as a clerk at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Looking for greener pastures, he resigned in 1973 to pursue a career in real estate.

He worked as realtor-associate with Layton Realty in 1973. After two years, he was made office manager because of his competence, dedication and integrity. Aspiring to be his own boss, he put up his own Fernando P. Arendain Realty in 1978 when he got his real estate broker’s license. He served as broker to big developers, among them W & B Builders based in Santa Monica, California. One of the high-end developments he brokered is the Hathaway Hills Estates where the Arendains now live.

His notable success earned him membership in the Los Angeles Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He was also cited in Who’s Who in California. He and his wife Celia were chosen Outstanding Parents of Los Angeles in 1997-1998.

A loyal Centralian, he has generously supported the University and has served as vice president of the Southern California CPUAA Chapter.

NEUROLOGY

Dr. Eby L. Bañas obtained his High School Diploma (honorable mention) and A.A. Pre-Med (with honors) from CPU in 1959 and 1962, respectively. Although a working student, he excelled in academic, sports, and religious activities. He served as Vice President of the CPURepublic and Captain of the Gospel Team and the Volleyball Team.

He studied medicine at Far Eastern University as a scholar of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society. He began serving as an Intern at IloiloMissionHospital and CapizEmmanuelHospital, then as a Rural Doctor in Banate, Iloilo, and among a mountain tribe in Benguet.

He finished his specialization in Neurology at ThomasJeffersonUniversity in Philadelphia in 1978. Aspiring for excellence, he availed of fellowships for more studies at the University of Kentucky, after which he served as Consultant for several hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In recognition of his expertise, he was commissioned to do researches for the US government and was chosen for a 2-year study in Switzerland.

An active Christian, he supports several religious and missionary endeavors and has donated land and money to his home church in Banate. Ever loyal to CPU, he is President of the CPUAA Northeastern, Inc. that has built the new CPU Tennis Courts.

Dr. Ferjenel G. Biron obtained his Elementary Certificate and High School Diploma, both with honors, at CPU in 1977 and 1981, respectively. He received the B.S. Biological Sciences, magna cum laude, in 1985 and the M.D. in 1989 from WestVisayasStateUniversity.

Going into entrepreneurship, he established the Ferj’s Pharmacy Drug Store Chain in IloiloCity in 1990. In 1993 he founded and became President/CEO of Philippine Pharmawealth, Inc., the biggest trading house of injectable pharmaceuticals in the country. He also became President of Q.B. International Trade in 1995. From 1994 to 2004, he was President/CEO of Pharmawealth Laboratories, Inc., the largest and first Filipino Multi-facility Injectable Plant. A recognized leader in the pharmaceuticals industry, he is Executive Vice President of the Philippine Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Inc. and Director of the Filipino Drug Association.

Active in church work and civic spirited, he has supported several community projects through CARE Philippines and his B.I.R.O.N. Foundation, Inc. In 2004, the people of the 4th District of Iloilo elected him to the 13th Congress of the Philippines, where he is Senior Vice Chairman on Health and on Export Promotion and Member of 18 House Committees.

Ever a loyal Centralian, he has served as Member of the CPU Corporation and is a strong supporter of University programs and projects.

Atty. Lily V. Biton obtained from CPU her BS Biology in 1982 as recipient of the Lorenzo Majaque Scholarship and her LLB as a work student. She has earned 33 units towards the Master of Laws at the University of Sto. Tomas.

She started working as a Branch Clerk of Court, Branch 41, Manila RTC, in 1987. Transferring to the Sandiganbayan as a Senior Attorney, she rose to her present rank of Clerk of Court III which is equal in rank to a Metropolitan Trial Court Judge. For her unselfish dedication, integrity, and exemplary leadership, she was conferred the 2004 Chief Justice Award for Outstanding Service in the Judiciary.

She does not confine her legal expertise to her official work, but also gives free lectures and legal counseling through radio broadcasts and legal missions to the grassroots. From 2001 to 2004, she was legal counsel volunteer and Bible Study Leader of the Prison Ministry, Correctional Institute for Women in MandaluyongCity. An active Christian, she has served as Sunday School teacher, organist and pianist in various churches. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Biblical Studies Foundation and adviser of the Center for Biblical Studies Institute and Seminary.

NUCLEAR SCIENCE

Mr. Edilberto A. Cabalfin received his B.S. Chemistry from CPU in 1959. In 1967 he got the M.Sc. Physics from StrathclydeUniversity in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on an academic fellowship from the International Atomic Energy Administration (IAEA).

He devoted some 40 years of fruitful service at the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission and the National Nuclear Research Institute where he distinguished himself in research and development, publications, training, and technical work. From 1980-1987, he was Chief, Radiation Protection Division of PAEC and from 1988-2003 when he retired, was Chief, Nuclear Services and Training Division, NNRI. He had also served as Senior Lecturer in Nuclear Engineering at UP and on Medical Physics at the University of Sto. Tomas.

In his quest for excellence, he attended the IAEA Advanced Course in Radioactive Waste Management at OxfordUniversity, and 33 other foreign training courses and seminars. He had a total of 28 published works, and had undertaken no less than 14 special assignments including representing the Philippines in two international atomic energy committees.

In recognition of his stature as a nuclear scientist, he is an Associate Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines and Board Member and Chairman on Scientific Meetings of the Radioisotope Society of the Philippines.

Mrs. Delia D. Collado received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Central Philippine University in 1978.

She started serving as a Social Case Worker for the Court of Appeals in 1978-1980, and the Tahanan Outreach Program, Inc. in 1978-1986. Shifting from Social Work to Marketing, she joined the Fil-Estate Realty Corporation. With her Christian values and fine performance, she rose to become Branch Manager, Area Sales Director, Vice President; and since 1998, Executive Vice President of Fil-Estate Realty Sales Association, Inc. Since 1999, she has also been Senior Vice President of Mt. Zion Memorial, Inc., Pasig City. Despite her busy work, she has been a faithful Christian worker with the Servant of God, Supporter of God’s Ministry from 1987 to the present.

Her exemplary performance and success have brought her enviable awards and honors, such as: Branch Manager of the Year 1988 from Fil-Estate Realty Corporation, Area Sales Director of the Year 1989, and Grand Slam Vice President of 1995 from Fil-Estate Network, Inc.; Outstanding Woman of 1999 from Samahan ng Kababaihan; Outstanding Christian Leader, 1997, from COMFI, and Most Profitable Vice President of 2000 from Fil-Estate Sales Association, Inc.

Dr. Genaro D. Diesto, Jr. obtained his A.B. and B.D., cum laude, from CPU in 1972 and 1975, respectively. He received the M.A. in Theological Studies, with highest honors, from Northern Baptist Seminary in 1979; Master of Theology, with honors, from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1983, and Ph.D., with best dissertation award, from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1998.

Dr. Diesto served on the staff of the Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches in 1974-1976 before leaving for further studies in the United States. He served as a hospital chaplain in Chicago and pastor in different churches. He organized the Filipino Evangelical Church in Los Angeles and helped plant four other churches in California, Texas and Florida. A former Dean of Asian Studies at the California Christian University, he is now Senior Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Los Angeles; Adjunct Professor, Logos Evangelical Seminary; Coordinator, Asian American Baptist Churches and Regional Staff of the American Baptist Churches, Los Angeles Area. He was President of the CPUAA Southern California Chapter in 1995-1997.

MILAGROS V. DIGNADICE

BUSINESS EDUCATION

Dr. Milagros V. Dignadice obtained her A.B., B.S.C., and M.B.A. from CPU in 1964, 1965, and 1974, respectively. She got her Ph.D. from the University of San Agustin in 1981.

She began serving CPU as a staff member at the Public Relations Office in 1964-1967. For seven years she taught at the Western Institute of Technology, but returned to CPU in 1974 to join the College of Commerce faculty. She was designated Acting Dean of the College in 1975 and became Dean in 1977. For 20 years up to 1996, she led the college grow in size and stature to deserve Level III Accreditation. She was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1996-1998, and concurrently served as Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Computer Science.

A member of several professional organizations, she was Charter President, Women’s Aglow Fellowship International, Iloilo Chapter; and Vice President, Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools of Business from 1976-1991. She has participated in more than 200 seminars and conferences throughout the country. Among her many honors and awards is the Outstanding Teacher Award from DECS in 1987; her selection as a visiting scholar to the Eastern College, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1994-1995; and her inclusion in the Trade and Tourism Mission to the USA in 1988 and the Educational Mission to Taiwan in 1993.

Active in church work, she had held responsible positions at the University Church, CPU for many years. Since 2003, she is a Missionary of the Lord’s Banner Full Gospel Fellowship to California, USA.

Dr. Generoso D. Duremdes obtained his A.A. Pre-Med at CPU in 1955 and his M.D. at Far Eastern University in 1960.

He had his residency first at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in New Jersey, and then at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University, New York, and also at Wyler Children’s Hospital, University of Chicago. In 1969, he joined the Princeton Community Hospital in West Virginia, where he was thrice elected Chief of Surgery. In 2002-2004, he was Clinical Professor of Surgery, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

His competence and leadership are widely recognized. Among other honors, he is a Diplomate, AmericanCollege of Surgery; Fellow, International College of Surgeons; and was President, AmericanCollege of Surgeons, West Virginia Chapter. He has given several significant scientific lectures and presentations, and his writings have appeared in Surgical Forum and Annals of Surgery.

Together with his wife, Dr. Janelle B. Duremdes, he has generously given towards several projects at CPU, among them the Prayer Garden, as expressions of their faith in God and love for their Alma Mater.

JANELLE BERMEJO DUREMDES

PEDIATRICS

Dr. Janelle B. Duremdes obtained her High School Diploma and A.A. Pre-Med at CPU in 1953 and 1955, respectively. She received her M.D. from Far Eastern University in 1960.

She served at Iloilo Mission Hospital for two years before going to America in 1962 for further training. She underwent internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital in New Jersey, and had her residency in Pediatrics at Fordham Hospital in New York where she became Chief Resident in 1965-1968. She worked as Pediatric Consultant in different hospitals including Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, West Virginia. For many years she had a successful private practice and was Chief Executive Officer of Princeton Surgical Group, Inc.

She is a Diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics, and Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics. She enjoys membership in several organizations. Most worthy of mention is that she is a Founder of the Philippine Pediatric Society of America and a Trustee of Bluefield College in West Virginia.

Together with her husband, Dr. Generoso Duremdes, she has donated generously for several projects at CPU, among them the Prayer Garden, which are strong testimonies to their faith in God and love for their Alma Mater.
