JOB DESCRIPTION- HEAD VARSITY CROSS COUNTRYCOACH

All TPCA coaches should agree and abide by our Athletic Purpose Statement, which reads:

Traders Point Christian Academy is committed to developing and maintaining an athletic program that is

Christ centered, comprehensive, competitive and allows each athlete a unique venue to be a witness for

Christ by using his or her God given talent to move and play.

Responsibilities include 1) overseeing all aspects of the cross country program as Head of Program, 2) developing appropriate skill building opportunities for each developmental level, 3) participating collegially in meetings and initiatives of the athletics department, 4) taking an active role in the life of the school community, especially the co-curricular events of students, and 5) other duties within the scope of experience and competence to complement the coaching role.

Direct Report: Athletic Director

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THEPOSITION – Include, but are not limited to:

1. Working with the Athletic Director in the selection and organization of a qualified coaching staff and oversight of entire Cross Country Program, grades 5-12.

2. Overseeing and encouraging the spiritual development of student-athletes.

3. Proactively communicating with parents and stake-holders in regards to schedules, etc.

4. Teaching and coaching the fundamentals of the sport, good sportsmanship, leadership, respect for

teachers and adults, fair play, the importance of academics, and relate to and inspire confidence in

students.

5. Organizing initial team meeting and establish team rules, procedures, and policies in writing as

approved by Athletic Director.

6. Ensure that student-athletes are compliant and academically eligible

7. Abiding by and enforcing TPCA policies on tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.

8. Supervising regular practice sessions and games, and is responsible for the conduct of participants

at practice, games (before, during, after), and while traveling as a member of the team.

9. Supervising athletes until the last student leaves from that contest.

10. Carrying emergency care cards of students whenever at an official event.

11. Responsible for attending and encouraging assistant coaches to attend required organizational and rules meetings.

12. Responsible for ensuring facility is secure at the close of each practice and/or game.

13. Reports all accidents/injuries to the Athletic Director and/or administrator.

14. Attends coaches’ meetings when called or scheduled.

15. Follows established school procedures for securing necessary equipment and uniforms for the team,

and securing approval of the Athletic Director before ordering.

16. Responsible for the distribution, care, cleaning, and inventory of all uniforms and equipment at the beginning and end of each season. Equipment inventory should be received by Athletic Director within one month of the season’s completion.

17. Planning team year end banquet and submitting: the criterion used and list of letter winners, season

record, a list of student athletes receiving special awards or recognition, and program needs for the following season.

18. Submit pre-season & season practice schedules (& game schedules, if necessary) to Athletic Director one month before commencement of season.

19. Submit initial roster to Athletic Director before first practice and notify AD of any changes as season progresses.

20. Reports all game results to Athletic Director within 24 hours of contest finish.

21. Annually completing the Concussion Training and submitting certificate AD before 1st practice.

22. Develop a system to annually evaluate Assistant Coaches and report those assessments to the AD.

ASSESSMENT:The Athletic Director will assess the effectiveness of the Head Coach annually with

respect to the performance of the essential functions.
