In 2008 the Geographic Service of the Czech Armed Forces is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its creation. For all

the era of its existence the Service has been a vehicle of a progress in the all areas of the surveing. Though the Service

has been a military authority above all, its activities and works its specialists have had a fundamental impact on a development

of the Czech surveying, on a development of geodetic fundamentals including a technical and technological

development. The article brings a brief profile of the main professional tasks which the Service has fulfilled from its

date of creation.

On October 1, 1993, the Topographic Institute was founded in Banská Bystrica. After splitting Czechoslovakia it continued

in the work of the Military Topographic Institute in Dobruška and the Military Geographic Institute in Prague.

The main task of the new Topographic Institute was to ensure topographic maps production and updating. This article

describes several important milestones in the Institute’s history, presents its successes, and acquaints with basic ideas of

Institute’s activities. Nowadays, when the Topographic Institute will celebrate its 15th anniversary, it can boast not only

of high end equipment, but mainly of expert activities outreaching Slovak Republic.

SKLADOWSKI, Jiří. Ordnance Surveyor Works at the KFOR Base. Vojenský geografický obzor. 2008, no. 1, p. 30–31.

On the basis of the Deputy chief of the ACR General Staff order it was necessary to map military camp KFOR Šajkovac

at the end of January and at the beginning of February 2008. In a few days it was important to prepare not only geodetic

technology but also surveyors for KFOR serving. The surveyors were expected to spend a week in frosty Kosovo during

which it was required to renew geodetic points and to map all the changes which have been made in comparison with

the original base plan.

MARŠA, Jan; BĚLKA, Luboš. Military Geo Specialists in Afghanistan and TLM 50. Vojenský geografický obzor. 2008,

Geographic support of the staff and armed forces belongs to the very important part of special activity of the Geographic

Service of the Czech Armed Forces. Rapid topographic map TLM 50 represents a recent example of the geographic

support of foreign missions. Sixteen map sheets of the map have been developed and produced by specialists in

VGHMÚř Dobruška in short time to be avaible for the czech contingent ISAF PRT mission in Loghar province.

The paper deals with the main tasks of Special Monitoring and Meteorology Department (VGHMÚř Dobruška). The

article briefly describes the history of this special workplace as far as the existing responsibility in the field of seismology

and meteorology. Moreover, there are shortly mentioned current research activities. The last part pays attention to

the future possible actions.
