Job Description
Job Title: Director of Information Technology
Department: Information Technology
Job Summary: Responsible for planning, designing, and implementing the hospital’s computer network and for technical support of information systems and telecommunications. Other responsibilities include research, development, and application of new information system technologies to support the goals of managing and operating the hospital.
OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Class III.
Job Qualifications:
A. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or Information Systems preferred with major course work in management, telecommunications or, Technical Certification.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Systems development and planning, systems integration/networking, and knowledge of current system technologies and applications in the data and voice communication field. IT Clinical experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Microsoft Server and Networking certifications preferred. Cisco certifications preferred. CISSP preferred. Background in systems security preferred. Background in Linux preferred but not required.
D. Experience:
1. Prior work experience: Ten years or more working with hospital systems and management.
2. Technical Training: Networking, Cisco, and Security training. Training with Dell Sonicwall Firewalls.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of sitting, standing and walking. Occasional bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Plans, designs, implements and coordinates technical support for hospital wide information systems, networks, and department applications. This includes the technical direction for voice, data, and network systems.
B. Regularly manages and supervises one full time IT Technician. Also coordinates all work performed by outside contractors and vendors while onsite. Provides technical leadership within a structure that is consistently expanding through hospital system development.
C. Participates in the hiring and promotion process for the full-time IT Technician identified in subsection A, above, including providing meaningful feedback to the hiring committee.
D. Responsible for developing and implementing the annual budget for the Information Technology department. Maintains necessary controls to assure compliance with budgeted expenses, resources, and staff projections.
E. Directs the utilization of information system resources.
F. Plans, designs, and implements hospital-wide information systems and technologies.
G. Manages the day-to-day operations of the Information Technologies Department and implements necessary system modifications at minimum cost and effort. Remains current with technological advances and is able to apply them where possible.
H. Responsible for the development of hospital-wide systems standards policies and procedures for hardware, software, network systems, and telecommunications.
I. Ensures the hospital meets all regulatory compliance.
J. Responsible for development and implementation of information system disaster recovery plans.
K. Coordinates, develops, and executes program for continual measurement of the hospital’s information systems, and communicates networks’ performance and effectiveness.
L. Ensures the provision of cost efficient information services and systems. Anticipates developments in fields of information technology. Recommends enhancements to existing systems through ongoing review.
M. Oversees Meaningful Use objectives for next Phase of Stage 3 and Stage 2 until 2018.
N. Maintains the Hospital’s Internet Database.
O. Maintains the Hospital’s Intranet, with a special focus on the Policies and Procedures for the Hospital.
P. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Significant Requirements:
A. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
B. Interacts with staff, visitors, vendors, etc. in a professional and courteous manner.
C. On-Call every other week 24/7 required.
