Delivery Report for SCLS Board of Trustees

April, 2017

Prepared by: Corey Baumann - Delivery Services Coordinator

PLSR Update:

The PLSR Delivery Worgroup last met on February 9. There are no new developments within the workgroup. However, a meeting is being scheduled soon.

All 16 systems conducted a volume sample during the first week of April. Those results have all been sent to me and will be used to evaluate volume considerations for model development for statewide delivery.

Topic Team – PLSR Regions:

The Regions team met in person on March 21 in Stevens Point. The results of this meeting were that all workgroups deferred to the Delivery Workgroup to develop a service map for the state that best fit delivery needs. Other members felt that they could either work within such a map or they could overlap their service models without regard to defined borders or hub locations.

The Regions team will have an update to present at WAPL event later this month.

Inside SLSC, the greatest decline is seen in Portage County and its neighboring counties. This is attributed to the natural ebb of volume back to “normalcy” after more than a year after joining the catalog. Conversely, in Columbia County, significant increases are noted due primarily to the addition of Randolph. This increase was both the new patronage of Randolph and the visibility of their unique materials to the greater system.

Statewide volume continues to fall off at about 6% for each of the last 2 years. Systems volume is declining at a slower pace of about 2% annually. The University of Wisconsin has a slightly higher rate of decline that is over 6% for the last two years for campuses outside of Madison and over 10% decline for the Madison campus libraries.

Declines can be attributed to both an overall trend away from borrowing, but in the case of academic libraries, a higher emphasis on consolidating libraries and the increase in use of electronic resources.

Last Reported Lost-Time Injury:

January 27, 2017– While driver was making a stop at Stoughton Library, he slipped on a small patch of ice and “tweaked” his knee. He never fell to the ground, but the slip caused him to catch himself awkwardly on the delivery truck. He went home after completing his route (missed ½ a day of scheduled work). He returned to work his next scheduled day but he was limited to light duty over the next 2 weeks.

Current: 82 calendar days as of 2/16/17

(581 calendar days was the previous accident free stretch)
