Dear Chaparral Families,

This is your principal, Mrs. Buhr, with your Sunday message. Remember that tomorrow is a non-student day and Tuesday -Friday this week are all minimum days for parent conferences...students will be dismissed at 12:45 pm. Wow!! Our Hawks sure love to run!! Thank you to all of our runners and as always our generous Chaparral families and friends!! The Jog-A-Thon has raised a grand total of $25,202 so far!! We only need $4,798 more to have me perched on the roof dressed as a hawk. We still have time!! If you have not already, please register your child and share your child’s page on your social media sites and collect those donations! Cash and check donations are also still welcomed! But hurry….donations close on Wednesday November, 15th. Please read the attached email for other important information and happenings at Chaparral. See you all Tuesday.

REMINDER! 2017-2018 PUSD GATE Testing Information

PUSD is accepting requests for evaluation for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). GATE involves instruction for exceptionally able students in grades 3-8 whose cognitive needs may require a modified classroom program to accommodate their learning differences. Students in grades 2nd – 7th may be tested. The following general guidelines may be used as you consider the appropriateness of GATE testing for your child:

1) advanced comprehension and a very fast pace of learning for new concepts

2) a need for complexity and intensity in the learning environment

3) the desire to think deeply shown through the ability to make connections and generalizations across subjects/disciplines

If you would like your child tested for possible GATE identification, please visit the GATE webpage on https://onlinereg.powayusd.com/GateSurvey/ . You must complete the request online before November 30, 2017 . If you have any questions about GATE testing, please talk to your child’s teacher during parent/teacher conferences the week of November 13th.

Your child’s school will contact you following the Winter Break, to inform you of the exact date of GATE testing at your child’s school. Students will be excused from class for approximately one hour in order to participate in testing during the regular school day. The testing window is between Jan. 23-25, 2018.

Notifications regarding GATE testing results will be mailed to parents in April, 2018.

Spirit Day

NEW!Hawks, channel your inner animal this Friday, November 17, for spirit day. Get out your kitty cat ears or bunny tails and show your Hawk pride. It’s bound to be a purrific day! Please, no full face masks.

NEW! Dining for Dollars: Monday, November 27 AND Wednesday, November 29

Mark your calendars and let Chipotle cook for you! It’s a double win; no need to worry about dinner and you are helping provide additional funds for our school. Please join us on both Monday, November 27th and Wednesday, November 29th from 4 - 8 p.m. for our next Dining for Dollars evening at Chipotle in Carmel Mountain. These events will positively add to the fun experiences and opportunities that our students get to enjoy including the new Innovation Lab and Arts Attack! Chipotle is located at: 11134 Rancho Carmel Dr Ste 104, San Diego, CA 92128. Chipotle will donate 50% of all sales on both evenings when presented with Chaparral’s fundraiser flyers. Invite your family and friends to join in on supporting Chaparral. **Please note, both flyers are slightly different; you will need to present the correct flyer for the corresponding evening.**

REMINDER! Have Fun and Finish Chelsea’s Run - Saturday, March 3, 2018

Last year Chaparral had over 100 Hawks sign up with our team: Chaparral Hawks for Finish Chelsea’s Run 5K. Registration for Chelsea’s Run 5K is now open. Please consider registering today as prices will increase on November 10th. Our Student Ambassador is hosting a school wide contest for the classroom who has the most student’s registered on Team Chaparral Hawks by November 10th. Each participant must print confirmation of team registration and deliver it to Mrs. Hibbert’s room (room 15) no later than November 10th. The winning class will receive a PRETZEL PARTY!
