WARRIOR SPORTS
Day of Ultimate Challenges
Warrior Sports is a program that serves to inspire and empower youth through education and sports exposure which create endless possibilities and options. We wish to show youth how to have fun while understanding the benefits of proper exercise and physical/athletic training. In promoting youth fitness and increase health awareness while reducing obesity and crime, Warrior Sports proposes a community day filled with sports recreational activities to have fun, challenge and engage youth.
The project is called A Day of Ultimate Challenges inclusive of basic fitness, athletic and recreational events and fun filled activities. We want kids and families to get up, come out and have a great time engaging with community neighbors and residents. For youth that are younger and or need of rest & relaxation we will have more low impact group activities, table games as well as an arts & crafts workshop. The outcome of this event will bring the community closer while promoting health and physical activity awareness as well as promote our sports programs. It will reduce crime and deviant behavior by creating SAFE zones that youth can galvanize as well as offer productive activities that appeal to teens that are purposeful and beneficial to their well-being.
The first date in this series of Day of Ultimate Challenges fitness events is September 28, 2013 in East Harlem. It will take place at the Thomas Jefferson Park (111th-114th streets, First Avenue-East River Drive, New York, N.Y. 10029), NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. The following event will take place in the South Bronx on October 12, 2013 at St. Mary’s Park (141-149 Streets, St. Ann’s –Jackson Avenues, Bronx, N.Y., 10455), NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. Additionally, this event will serve as a membership drive for the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation for youth 17 and under (which is free) and reduced fee for young adults 18-21 years of age.
Health First & Emblem Health will offer sponsorship for this event incorporating other aspects of healthy living which are medical screenings (blood pressure, glucose, vision, dental, & hearing) and offering medical coverage. A donation of some sports equipment has been received from the NYC Department of Health. We also have the support of our local city council member and assemblyman. Warrior Sports plans to make this event as comprehensive as possible and increase our resources to service more participants. We hope you will join us!
