Current Mexico FAQs – 8/28/2017

Q: I have heard stories about alcohol in Mexico beingtainted. Did the Mexican authorities find tainted alcohol in bars, restaurants and resorts during their recent inspections?

The Mexican government completes alcohol inspections on a regular basis. During recent inspections, they did not find any tainted alcohol. There were findings of alcohol that did not meet regulatory standards of proper labeling. Other inspections found alcohol for which taxes were not properly paid. The authorities closed down the establishments that did not meet the standards. Again, no tainted alcohol was discovered.

Q: Do I need to worry about my or my family’s safety when traveling to Mexico?

A: When traveling to Mexico, we urge you to exercise the same amount of caution you would use in your own country and any other country you would visit. Resorts are an extremely safe way to vacation – and we thoroughly vet each of the resorts we offer. All resorts we offer have strict security measures throughout each property to ensure the safety of all visitors.

Q: Why did the U.S. government recently update its Travel Advisory?

A: The U.S. State Department recently updatedan existing Travel Warning on Mexico to extend to the popular tourist regions that includes Cancunand Los Cabos. The update was a routine update and is related toisolated incidents that were targeted violence among criminal organizations.Explicit in the State Department’s warning was that resort areas and tourist destinations are not considered targets for such drug-related violence and crime. However, out of an abundance of caution, the U.S. government added these regions into the warning. The Mark Travel Corporation is aware of theupdatedwarning, and we takethisvery seriously.
