Community Communications Officer

Job title: Community Communications Officer (6 months fixed term contract)

Location: Manchester Crossroads / Flexible

Responsible to: Chief Officer

Salary: £18,200 per annum, (pro rata £10,920)

Hours: 35 per week, (pro rata 21)

Annual leave: 21 days per annum, (pro rata 13)

Purpose

To assist in the development and delivery of a community based and service user led communications strategy focussed on income generation for Crossroads Care services in Manchester and Tameside.

Management Responsibilities

To effect the developmentand growth of service delivery through:

  • The raising of unrestricted funds
  • The development of new business within the personalisation framework
  • The raising of awareness of the work of Crossroads across Manchester and Tameside to identified stakeholders
  • The recruitment of proactive volunteers and supporters who can add value to our mission.

Quality

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of business and systems to support the work and lead by example in ensuring compliance with Crossroads policies and protocols, fundraising best practice, Institute of Fundraising codes and relevant legislation at all times.

service users

  • To support consultation with service users in identifying levels of satisfaction and future needs and ensuring these are communicated to a variety of community based stakeholders.
  • To represent service user views within appropriate fora.

New Business

  • To develop stakeholder networks which can generate new fundraising income.
  • To support the Chief Officer in the delivery of tenders and new business acquisition.
  • To develop engagement opportunities through liaision with activity based centres, GP practices, community resource centres etc which convert to new business.
  • Identify market opportunities and deliver pilot activity to develop new markets with a minimum return on investment of 2:1

Promoting Crossroads Care

  • To represent ManchesterCrossroads Care locally as required.
  • Promote Crossroads Care by attending presentations and talks to local groups and organisations on the role and work of the organization to generate referrals, fundraising income, awareness and volunteering.
  • In consultation with service users and staff, design, produce and distribute a 6 monthly news letter.
  • Design, deliver and update the website.
  • Design, produce and deliver all marketing materials in agreement with the Chief Officer.
  • When required, design and deliver PR materials for local and Crossroads press.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Ensure that allreferrals are passed to the Care team for follow up and processing.
  • Input written & verbal communications onto relevant databases and IT systems to ensure that all communication and engagement opportunities can be followed up and measured.
  • Provide statistical reports, within agreed timescales, to the Trustees and Chief Officer as and when required.

  • To follow Crossroads Care Code of Conduct.
  • To work within the philosophy and policies of the organisation.

  • To ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • To be committed to working as part of a team in order to ensure minimal disruption to services, referrals and service reviews etc during periods staff absences
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post holder’s grade as requested by Chief Officer.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Experience of:
  • working within voluntary / social / health care sector
  • giving presentations to a variety of groups including senior business leaders
  • Income generation

  • Working in the local community with community groups

Skills & Abilities
  • Present oral/written communication professionally and persuasively.
  • A proven track record in developing, implementing and managing project plans and delivering targets and deadlines.
  • Think conceptually and creatively to develop appropriate proposals for volunteers and supporters.
  • Work flexibly to support local and Crossroads UK priorities to maximise opportunities.
  • Use of IT systems and packages that will assist with this role.
  • Good relationship management and development skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to make decisions
  • Ability to manage resources effectively including the use of IT based systems
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Self Starter

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent
  • ECDL
  • Working with volunteers
