Requirements for Contest Rules
1. / The rules must use the words “How to Play” rather than simply “Play”, and must clearly describe how to play the contest.
2. / The rules must clearly describe the number of prizes available (i.e. one or more), (one per LCBO store), as well as all material qualifications and limitations.

4. / The rules should clearly state a limitation on the number of entries (example: one person per day)
If the entry is handwritten, rules must state that “entries must be readily legible”.
5. / The retail value of each prize must be clearly shown.
6. / The rules must clearly state if entry is by mail or if on-line it must be received by a specified date.
7. / The rules must prominently disclose that No Purchase is Necessary in order to participate. If the rules read that to enter the contest you must purchase a particular product, then the rules must also state that “to enter without purchase, you can request a coupon or entry form by sending a stamped self-addressed envelope to [insert address]”.
8. / Language must appear in the rules to explain the odds of winning (e.g. “The chances of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received”).
9. / The rules must indicate that the winner will be required to correctly answer, unassisted a time-limited, arithmetic skill testing question and must describe how the question will be administered (e.g. by telephone at a pre-determined mutually convenient time).
10. / A sentence must appear in the rules clearly stating the starting date and the closing date of the contest and “when the draw will be conducted”.
11. / The rules must state how a winning entrant will be selected (by random draw or other wise).
12. / The rules must clearly state that only persons of legal drinking age in Ontario can enter. An alternative would be to state that all entrants must be 19 years of age or more. If the contest will be used in other provinces then the following words are acceptable “Entrants must be of legal drinking age in their province of residence”.
13. / The full contest rules must appear in a place that is conspicuous to the contest entrant. They must either appear on the back of entry form or be posted at the ballot box (i.e., before the potential entrant is committed to the product or enters the contest).
14. / The following sentences must appear in the contest rules:
(i) The winner will be required to sign a document in a form acceptable to the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (“LCBO”) releasing the LCBO, its directors, officers, employees and agents from all liability of any kind in connection with the contest, or occurring as a result of the prize being awarded;
(ii) To be eligible to win, the entrant must not be an employee or a member of the immediate family of, or domiciled with an employee of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (“LCBO”), an employee of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (“AGCO”) or of any licensees authorized by AGCO, or of the independent contest organization;
(iii) The LCBO and AGCO are not connected to this contest in any manner whatsoever and are not liable in a any way for any matter related to this contest.
(iv) The prize must be accepted on an “as is” basis and that there is no substitution of prizes.
(v) The contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
(vi) By entering the contest, entrants agree to abide by the contest rules and decisions of the independent contest organization which are final.
15. / If there is to be a regional allocation of prizes (e.g. 1 per province), then this must clearly be explained.
THE LCBO WILL REVIEW CONTEST RULES TO ENSURE THEY COMPLY WITH LCBO REQUIREMENTS HOWEVER, IT IS THE SUPPLIER’S responsibility to ensure the contest and any promotion or advertising associated with the contest comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines, including specifically, guidelines established by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
We have read the LCBO requirements set out above and have ensured that they have been met.
