Job title: Communications and Events Officer

Hours:part-time (22.5 hours a week) occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Employed by: Enfield Consumers of Health and Social Care Services (known as Healthwatch Enfield)

Reports to: Chief Executive

Salary: £27Kpro rata pa (inclusive of pension at 6%)

Location: Edmonton, with some travel across the borough

Background

Healthwatch was set up nationally and locally by the Health and Social Care Act 2012. The national vision for Healthwatch is that it will be the independent champion for the publicpromoting better outcomes for all users of health and social care services. The underpinning principle is that of ‘no decision about me, without me’ meaning that service users and the public must be at the heart of all health and social care commissioning and delivery.

Healthwatch Enfield will be representative of its diverse communities and provide intelligence, including evidence from people’s views and experiences, to influence the policy, planning, commissioning and delivery of health and social care. We will provide information to help people access and make choices about services and signpost people to help them access independent complaints advocacy.

Healthwatch Englandsupports local Healthwatch organisations and will provide guidance and support around website development and branding.

Job purpose

To lead Healthwatch Enfield’s communications strategy, setting up communication channels and developing communication products.To develop and manage the website. To work with the Co-ordinator - Volunteers and Community Engagement to organise events, including Healthwatch Enfield’s Annual Conference.

Job Summary

You will create our communications plan, helping us make the most of new technologies. You will develop and manage our website and social media presence and build good relationships with local and ethnic minority media. You will work with the Chief Executive to produce press releases and handle media enquiries. You will work closely with the Co-ordinator – Volunteers and Community Engagement to organise and provide publicity for engagement events across the borough. You will take the lead on organising our Annual Conference.

General responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and all other members staff and share good practice and learning
  • Keep up-to-date with health and social care policy developments
  • Promote and raise awareness of Healthwatch Enfield
  • Provide monitoring information as required by Enfield Council, Healthwatch England or other relevant body, in an accurate and timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with other local Healthwatch organisations where appropriate
  • Assist with covering signposting and administrative duties in the absence of the Information and Signposting officer
  • Provide progress reports for the Chief Executive
  • Undertake any reasonable tasks, responsibilities and activities as requested by the Chief Executive in order to ensure the smooth running of the organisation
  • Maintain personal and professional competency and appropriate development
  • Act at all times within the rules, policies and procedures of Healthwatch Enfield

Communications

  • Create and implement a communications plan, making the most of new technologies as well as successful, traditional, methods of communication.
  • Ensure that our communication methods reach those people who face particular barriers to information
  • Develop and manage our website and social media presence to include a range of methods to reach local people in order to obtain their views and experiences of health and social care services
  • Liaise with local and ethnic minority media to secure coverage for Healthwatch Enfield and our activities
  • Design and implement ways to keep the public, our stakeholders and funders informed about our work – this might be via a newsletter
  • Working with the Chief Executive, produce press releases and handle media enquiries
  • Where specialist media expertise is necessary to enhance our ability to reach a particular target audience work with the Chief Executive to identify and procure this(eg film making)
  • Support volunteers to work on communication tasks
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out with due regard to the diversity within the Borough and within an Equal Opportunities Framework

Events organising

  • Work closely with the Co-ordinator: Volunteers and Community Engagement to organise events across the borough
  • Be responsible for the organisation of Healthwatch Enfield’s Annual Conference and other similar events during the year
  • Be responsible for advertising and producing publicity for our events and campaigns
