COMBAT FUZZY FESTIVAL TEETH THIS SUMMER

With festival season fast approaching, it’s time to get your wellies at the ready and prepare for some summer fun. Whether you’re off to Glastonbury, V-Fest or Bestival;showers are likely to become a luxury, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer from fuzzy festival teeth! Make sure you don’t forget tolook after your teeth and gums, and dress your festival look with a bright, healthy smile. You might get away with unwashed hair, but nobody likes bad breath…

Maintaining a good oral health routine whilst at a festival will ensure you feel confident and keep that bad breath at bay. Remembering to brush your teeth morning and night and using an interdental brush to get into those hard to reach areas will ensure you are keeping your teeth looking and feeling squeaky clean – however muddy you get!

Elaine Tilling, Head of Clinical Education at TePe UK, gives her top tips for ensuring you are wearing your brightest smile this festival season:

  • Brush for 2 minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste – it is simple but effective.
  • Swishing the mouth with water after eating will clear any loose debris and stimulate the saliva to flow. Saliva is nature’s natural cleanser and works to rebalance the acid environment produced in the mouth when we eat and drink these foods.
  • Interdental brushing in your tent using a TePe brush, or flossing, can help remove bits of debris which may have built up in-between your teeth. Regular use can help prevent and reduce stains between your teeth, giving you a healthier smile.
  • If you are worried about bad breath after all that food, drink and late nights, then take a tongue cleaner with you to help remove plaque from the surface of your tongue, which can build up and cause bad breath. If it is your first time, avoid placing the tongue cleaner too far back. Begin cleaning from the front, slowly moving to the back of the tongue to ensure you don’t trigger your gag reflex.
  • Chewing sugar free gum is a great way to freshen the mouthand encourage saliva flow to protect the enamel – saliva is Mother Nature’s tooth repair solution!
  • Protect your lips from the drying and sometimes damaging effects of the weather when you’re out and about all day this festival season. Lips are an integral part of a good smile so make sure you pack a lip balm. Even better if you apply a lip balm with an SPF to help prevent skin damage.
