Clinical Supervision I: Building Chemical Dependency Counselor Skills

2-day Course(14 CE Hours) - designed to increase understanding and skill in assessing the clinical skills of counselors in addiction treatment settings and building learning plans for their continued professional growth and development.Focused on the teaching and mentoring aspects of clinical supervision in the context of the Addiction Counseling Competencies. Topics include the importance of observation, performance evaluation, negotiation of learning plans, and the structuring of supervisory interviews.

Clinical Supervision II

2-day Course (14 CE Hours) - builds upon “Clinical Supervision I,” taking participants to the next level in supervisory skill development.Participants review CS I skills and add a conceptual framework and practice in correcting counselor performance problems.Frequently occurring ethical dilemmas in supervision are reviewed and participants practice a model for ethical decision making.

Introduction to Using Motivational Incentives (“PAMI - Promoting Awareness of Motivational Incentives”)

4-hour Course - designed to build awareness of the use of Motivational Incentivesas an evidence-based therapeutic strategy to enhance client retention in addiction treatment. Principles, history, research, and suggestions for overcoming implementation barriers are discussed.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

2-day Course (12 CE Hours) - focused on the foundational elements of MI and the spirit that underlies its techniques.This is an introductory course and geared toward people with no or little exposure to MI. The course covers the foundational skills of MI (OARS), and strategies to roll with resistance and enhance motivation.

Advanced Motivational Interviewing

2-day Course (12 CE Hours) - designed for individuals who have been exposed to introductory MI training and want to further develop and refine their MI skills. Provides a brief review of the spirit, principles and basic MI skills and focuses on skill development in the areas of identifying and eliciting change talk and using strategies to decrease resistance.

Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Counselor Motivational Interviewing Skills ("MIA:STEP)

2-day Course (12 CE Hours) ~ designed for clinical supervisors who want to maintain and build the MI skills of counselors and other direct service providers.Tools presented fortify a supervisor’s ability to provide structured, focused, and effective clinical supervision. Participants are introduced to an effective strategy for observation-based MI-oriented clinical supervision.

Developing Effective Treatment Plans (“Treatment Planning MATRS”)

1-day Course (7 CE Hours) - designed to help counselors develop treatment plans that are individualized, strength-based, and oriented toward specific client needs.Course is focused on using assessment information effectively in treatment planning and ongoing case management.

Buprenorphine Treatment: Education for Multidisciplinary Addiction Professionals

4-6 hour Course - aims to increase understanding of the role of Buprenorphine in medication-assisted treatment of opioid dependence.Content is focused on treatment strategies and philosophy, the role of Buprenorphine in recovery, and the value of coordinated client care.

Buprenorphine Treatment for Young Adults

3-hour Course - provides an overview of opioid use among adolescents and young adults and reviews the results of new research on using Buprenorphine to treat opioid addiction in young adults. The implication of the new research finding for effectively treating opioid addiction in young adults is discussed.

Selecting & Implementing Evidence-Based Practices

1-day Course (6 CE Hours) - presents practical strategies for selecting, implementing, assuring fidelity and sustaining evidence-based practices and programs. Intended audience is administrators and clinical supervisors responsible for integrating EBPs into their programs.

Group Counseling & Facilitation Skills

3-day Course (18 CE Hours) - interactive training in how to establish and facilitate productive process-oriented and psycho-educational groups.Content includes stages of group development, resolving conflict in groups, and practicing interventions that facilitate group growth.

Enhancing Client Motivation in Groups

2-day Course (14 CE Hours) – assumes a basic understanding of group counseling processes and designed to facilitate improvement in client readiness to change.Practice-oriented and focused on interventions that address change and improve group process.Participants have opportunity to identify difficult situations for practice during the course.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender/Transsexual Issues in Addiction Treatment

1-day Course (6 CE Hours) - provides addiction counselors and clinical supervisors with practical knowledge and skills for engaging and treating LGBT individuals seeking recovery.Course centers on enhancing familiarity with issues and barriers faced by LGBT persons in addiction treatment.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

2- day Course (14 CE Hours) - Participants will examine and review curricula for use in group or individual therapy, for clients in Pre-contemplation/Contemplation and those in the Preparation Stages of Development. Participants will be offered the opportunity to practice delivery of group curricula. Emphasis will be placed on accurate assessment of Stages of Change, methods to initiate change among clients and appropriate topics for group presentation.

Overview of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care

1.5- hour Course; also, available as a 6-hour Course– Communities who understand and develop their Recovery Oriented System of Care are preparing themselves for Health Care Reform. This training reviews the guiding principles and components of a Recovery Oriented System of Care and discusses steps to help clinicians, funders, and communities/treatment systems strengthen their current system of care to be more recovery-oriented.

Introduction to Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment

3- hour Course; also, available as a 6-hour Course - provides an overview of the SBIRT model of intervention for alcohol and drug misuse. The presentation will include a discussion of the rational and research supporting SBIRT, the importance of using this population-based approach for early identification of high risk users in multiple settings, and review the key components of the SBIRT model.

Working With Latinos: Cultural Considerations

2 -day Course (12 CE Hours) – focuses on increasing cultural understanding and developing personal and professional clinical skills in working effectively with Latino clients in addiction treatment settings.
