Clinical Psychologist – Adults and Older Children with Autistic Spectrum Conditions

Contract: 2 years fixed term

Hours: Part time - up to 18.75 hours

Salary: 45k-55k pro rata depending upon experience

1. Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for delivering a specialist psychological service for older children (16 years and above) and adults with autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and professionals, employers and carers who support them. Based in Havant, the post-holder will work across locations as necessary in Hampshire, Sussex. The work will include diagnosticassessment and delivering/evaluating a modular psychological treatment planfor individuals with autistic spectrum conditions.

2. Main Responsibilities

  • Clinical

Undertaking detailed diagnostic assessment including a range of standardised psychometric measures and associated clinical reporting.

Undertaking assessment for the purpose of informing/delivering treatment plans including assessment of executive functioning, emotional regulation, sensory functioning and social communication.

Identifying and developing coping strategies linked to post-diagnostic adjustment and awareness work.

Delivering a modular, 12-session psychology treatment/management plan incorporating a client centred formulation for a range of ASC clients.

Delivering adapted psychological treatment in keeping with clients’ psychological needs i.e. anxiety and mood disorders, including solution focused therapy, modified CBT, mindfulness/compassion focused approaches.

Maintain regular clinical records in relation to the above and in accordance with Psychology Chartered standards.

Consistently demonstrate effectiveness of clinical interventions where appropriate, utilizing both formal and informal outcome measurement.

  • Service Development

To work alongside the clinical supervisor and director in identifying and delivering service development initiatives and to evaluate these accordingly.

  • Supervision

To participate in regular clinical supervision in relation to the above clinical responsibilities and to remain compliant with professional guidelines.

Provide regular written and verbal progress updates to the Director regarding the above and seek advice/support where necessary.

  • Teaching/Training & Consultancy

Contributing to the planning and delivery of clinical teaching and training events to other health/social care professionals, voluntary agencies and support work teams on an ad hoc basis

  • Research

Formal evaluation of a modular treatment approach and further inter-disciplinary development/research of formal ASC assessment instrument(s) including social cognition.

4. Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development activity will be undertaken in line with the post-holder’s CPD plan and objectives. In broad terms these plans will include maintaining and developing clinical, supervisory and teaching/training/ consultancy skills. Compliance with HCPC registration requirements is considered a minimum standard for the post. The need and opportunity for more substantive training will be negotiated if deemed necessary for the role.

Level and frequency of CPD activity will be compliant with professional guidelines and Psychology Chartered clinical standards

5. Administrative Support

Administrative support will be provided as required in line with the specific needs of the role.

6 Confidentiality & Data Protection

The post-holder will update their knowledge of guidance as necessary and be compliant with data protection requirements. They will maintain confidentiality standards in accordance with professional standards.
