Classroom Rules, Procedures, and Expectations

■ Follow all classroom rules and procedures.

■ Be on time for class.

■ Come to class prepared:

• Have all items you will need for class with you and ready for use.

- If you need to sharpen your pencil, do so before class.

- You will not be allowed to go to your locker during class to retrieve books or

assignments.

• When the bell rings, you should be quiet and ready to begin your work.

• Be ready to think, to participate, and to learn – sleep on your own time, not during class.

• Have assignments completed and ready to turn in on the due date.

■ Remain in your assigned seat – leave your seat only when your teacher gives you permission.

• Your teacher begins and ends each class – not the bell.

• Do not line up at the door waiting for the bell to ring.

■ You must have permission from your teacher before you:

write on the chalkboard or erase anything on it.

use the Smart board or any other classroom equipment.

■ Only your teacher uses the computer at the teacher’s desk – students are not allowed to use

teacher computers.

■ Cell phones and other electronic items (devices for listening to music, games, calculators, cameras, etc.) are to remain out of site and powered off when in the classroom.

• Cell phones and other electronic items which are visible or make any noise will be

confiscated by your teacher (refer to District policy on cell phones).

■ Food and drink are not allowed in class, with the exception of water in a closed container.

• Unauthorized food and drink may be confiscated.

■ Leaving the room during class time will be discouraged. However, before you may leave the

classroom, you must have yourStudent Handbook and Planner signed by the teacher.

• In case of an emergency, quickly and quietly notify your teacher of the situation.

■ The classroom will be an atmosphere for academics; therefore, you should not engage in any disruptive or distracting activities.

■ You will be expected to devote sufficient study time outside of class for academic success.

■ You will be expected to follow the school’s policy of academic honesty. Cheating will result in a zero on the assignment and/or in redoing the assignment.

■ Be courteous to others at all times.

■ Respect your classmates, your teacher, and yourself.

■ Be responsible and accountable.

■ Practice self-discipline

■ Be honest.

Late work policy:

• Homework is considered late if not turned in by 3:10 p.m. on the day the assignment is

due.

• Homework that is late will be accepted for 80% credit.

• For excused absences, late work will be accepted for 100% credit the first day after

returning from an absence. The second day after returning from an absence, the late

work policy goes into effect.

• Daily Journal Entries (JEs) will be due every Friday. Late JEs will only be accepted

for up to one week (because you are given time in class each day to do them).

• This policy applies to all work unless there are extenuating circumstances (discuss these

with your teacher).

Entering the Classroom – Daily Procedures

1.Enter the classroom in a quiet and orderly manner.

2.If absent the previous day, check the folder for missed handouts or assignments.

3.Sharpen pencil (if needed) before class.

4.Be seated.

5.Get writing utensil and notebook ready to begin.

6.Begin “Bell Ringer” activity listed on the board.
