Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is committed to sustainable practices, business growth and development, and building external and internal alliances to support local, fresh, and handcrafted goods and services. We are young and we are growing! Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is located in a repurposed, historic fire hall in downtown Kenora with a Taproom & Eatery, Retail Store, Online Shop, and Commercial Sales – all under one roof. Just down the lake in Keewatin, is Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen.

What This Job Entails:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in menu development and daily specials
  • Financial responsibilities include: food cost controls, managing all departmental operation expenses, managing food waste (including staff dining, payroll controls- including), scheduling to business levels, productivity is maximized and recruitment procedures are effective.
  • Oversee the operation of all restaurant operations including: Taproom & Eatery, Private Parties, Special Events, Group Bookings, and Caterings (on and off-site).
  • Provide insight into food revenue opportunities.
  • Maintain par stock levels of food items, based on demand and business levels – maintain relationship with food stores that build communication on food rotation to minimize loss.
  • Ordering supplies, inventory control and cost management
  • Ensure all aspects of safe food handling and health board requirements are in place and practiced.
  • Work closely with Front-of-House to ensure extraordinary customer service.
  • Develop a work environment in the back-of-house that promotes staff retention.
  • Ensure that targets are met and annual departmental goals are successfully achieved.
  • Maintain effective and timely performance management practices, including – training, performance reviews, goal-setting, recognition, etc.
  • Commit to company-driven initiatives and committees by representing or appointing representatives from Kitchen and back-of-house to participate.
  • Establish work environment that focuses on health and safety; prevention of injuries is a key focus.
  • Enjoys working with and assisting new culinarians become professionals in the field.
  • Ensure all kitchens and eating areas are organized and maintain a high level of cleanliness
  • Responsible for food quality and presentation
  • Adhere to all government guidelines for proper and safe food and beverage service (Serve Safe; Smart Serve; Food Handling Training Protocol - Ministry of Health)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-years previous experience as a cook/ sous chef.
  • Valid trade certifications must be demonstrated.
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment with interruptions and a variety of demands.
  • Able to manage constant change and challenging situations.
  • Must be detail oriented, highly organized, creative, innovative and numerically inclined.
  • Aware of wellness and safety practices that protect self and co-workers.
  • Safe Food Handler Certified
  • Smart Service Certified
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work under pressure, to prioritize tasks and to meet deadlines
  • Strong communications skills, team player attitude, and task-oriented.

  • Starting salary is commensurate with experience
  • To be eligible to participate in the group benefits plan, after a 3-month probationary period
