All Catholic and Club teams rotate through the practice slots. Team practice schedules are
created after the league schedules are distributed. Teams use their practice slots to book exhibition
games.
Transport: Players are responsible for transportation to all games and practices except where buses have been
chartered for selected CHSAA games.
Payment: 2 payment plan. The budget and player invoices are distributed at the annual parent meeting the
beginning of October. The invoice lists the teams, jerseys and cost along with 2 payment dates.
Fund-Raising: The CHSAA hockey teams are permitted to pay their bills through the school’s fund-raising raffle.
Each player is given raffle tickets equal to his bill. He should try to sell as many as possible, any
unsold tickets are yours, put your name on any remaining tickets. You might be a lucky winner.
Ticket stubs are to be returned to the team manager and the amount sold could be used to credit
the player’s bill. * Do not return any money or ticket stubs to the school.
Try-Outs: Try-outs start the day after Labor Day. The CHSAA Varsity & Junior Varsity are selected first.
Then the Club Junior Varsity. Try-outs are by invitation only and are mailed out in July. A
deposit and tryout fee must be paid before players are allowed on the ice. Deposits are fully
refunded to players who do not play.
Equipment: Monsignor Farrell supplies home & away socks for CHSAA teams and one pair of socks for Club
teams. It also provides a practice jersey for every player. All equipment and game jerseys must be
purchased by the players. Whatever jerseys a player orders will be included in the invoice. Color
coordinated equipment is recommended but not mandatory. Maroon pants or covers and gold
helmets are required for CHSAA teams. Mouth pieces are mandatory for every game.
- Starting with the 2011/2012 season all new players are required to purchase a maroon helmet.
Lions Hockey will transition from gold to maroon helmets over the next few seasons.
Travel We encourage players to participate in travel hockey. The CHSHL plays all games at night on
weekdays and weekends. There are very few league game conflicts between the CHSHL and youth
travel. Any league game conflicts are handled on an individual basis. We are flexible in allowing
players to miss CHSHL games with the consent of the head coach.
FAQ: Players are invited to the highest level team that they have any chance of making. It is not
mandatoryfor any player to attend a tryout for a team he is not interested in playing on. Players
should only try out for the team which they want to play on.
Club: Monsignor Farrell High School only sanctions ice hockey teams to play in the Catholic High
School Athletic Association. These are the only officially recognized school teams. The school is
no longer affiliated with the Lions Hockey Club teams that play in the SI Pavilion High School
League. Every player is eligible and welcome to play club hockey regardless of his CHSAA
status; i.e. players cut from CHSAA teams and/or players invited to CHSAA tryouts and declining.
Players on Lions Club teams are not eligible for the school’s fund raising nor will Lions Club teams
be included in the annual school yearbook. Every player & parent will sign a waiver form which
acknowledges that Monsignor Farrell HS is not affiliated with the Lions Hockey Club.
