CASE: two new C series CX excavatorsoperated by Peduzzi TP help to improve access to the Terres Saint Jean shopping park in Épinal, France

Peduzzi TP has supplied twoC series CX excavators, for a major project to improve traffic flow at the Terres Saint Jean business and shopping park in Épinal.

The business and shopping parkwhich was built in 2006,has grown considerably over the years to become one of the largest commercial locations in Eastern France. This hasresulted in a significant increase in traffic, in particular at the crossroads over the RN57 main highwaybetween Nancy and Besançon.

Major works to renew the infrastructure and improve traffic flow and safety at the junction with the RN 57 started in March 2012. This includes the construction of an underground passage under the RN 57 linking the two parts of the Terres Saint Jean business and shopping park, thereby making them more readily accessible. The work is due to be completed by October 2012.

The client, Épinal town council, assigned this important part of the €1.5 million development project to Peduzzi TP andbased in Saint Ame, France. The company which is managed by Philippe Vuillemin, was founded in 1880, and specialized in construction, before branching out into earthworks in recent years.

Peduzzi TP has now grown to becomeof the largest companies specialising in large-scale earthworks within the Vosges region ofFrance. With a trading area of200 km, the company has posted annual revenues of almost €20 million from earthworks, roadworks and the installation of communication networks and utilities.

The company which employs around 80 people, including 60 drivers and eight site managers, relies on a fleet of 80 machines of all types, including more than 20 Case excavators including wheeled and tracked

Two new C series CX excavatorsexcavators for a tough job

At Épinal, Peduzzi TP was faced with a complex, major earthworks and roadworks project that lasted almost 6 months. The job was made more complicated by the different levels of the new access ways, and in particular the passage under the RN57, plus having to deal with the 20,000m² of various materialsthat had to be handled and moved with great precision, due to existing utilitiesand the creation and modification of the networks.

Philippe Vuillemin, took up the challenge by purchasing two new CX series excavators: one CX250C and one CX350C.

The proven reliability and performance of the CX range, respect for environmental standards and the detailed analysis of the fuel consumption of the new C series models were all decisive factors in his choice of equipment.

"I have remained loyal to Case for many years. These machines are very reliable, modern and efficient. I have been using a CX330 for more than 6years. It has more than 6,000 hours on the clock and has never needed repairing. The new CX series C excavators lived up to all our expectations at Épinal. They have higher lifting capacity and digging power and shorter cycles. All these qualities helped to boost our productivity," explains Philippe Vuillemin.

Fuel savings of 17% proven in the field

Fuel consumption directly impacts operating costs on site and is one of the top-priority criteria for operators.

The drivers of the two new CX series C excavators at Peduzzi TP quickly realized that fuel consumption was significantly lower than that of the preceding models.

"When we filled up with fuel, we soon realized that consumption is lower than that of the other CX machines in our fleet. Consumption has been cut by about 50 liters per working day. When you think that the tank holds 300liters on average, that really counts", explains Samuel Petitjean, one of the drivers of the new CX series C machines.

The CX series C excavators are fitter with an interim Tier 4 engine with reduced emissions that offers greater efficiency and lower fuel costs.

The engine complies with the regulations applying to pollutant emissions thanks to the cooled exhaust gas recycling system (CEGR) and a diesel particulate filter. And no exhaust fluids need to be added either.

Productivity is optimised by the automatic regeneration system in the diesel particulate diffuser (DPD). At low revs, the improved control of the hydraulic pumps and five new energy-saving devices cut fuel consumption by as much as 17%.Moreover, the driver can switch on the econometer in the cab to see the machine's most economical settings and record fuel consumption in real time.

"Maintenance has also been made easier by grouping the fillers and filters together, and by extending the time between engine oil changes to 500 hours and a full 5,000 hours between hydraulic oil changes," adds Samuel Petitjean.

A new cab designed just for operators

The drivers at Peduzzi also appreciate the comfortable cab and the redesigned controls.

"The new CX250C and CX350C machines are remarkably comfortable, a fact that is very important for drivers like us. They are much easier to handle.

The new controls are shorter and easier to operate, a fact that makes our work much more precise and pleasant. Visibility is almost perfect both at the front and on the sides. And the soundproofing is quite outstanding. The interior of the cab is really quiet,"explains Samuel Petitjean.

The series C cab is 7% wider than its predecessors and the layout has been redesigned to free up 60mm more space on the floor. Visibility has been improved by increasing the surface area of the windows by 60%, creating a sense of space and light. The inclining seat and air conditioning with numerous vents come as standard for optimal driver comfort all day long. The temperature is controlled inside the cab, which is mounted on silent blocks to reduce vibrations and noise in the interior. Combined with the new controls, which are easier to use and more intuitive, and the redesigned layout, this new configuration offers a more comfortable working environment for operators.

CIMME Lorraine: essential after-sales service

Peduzzi TP was also attracted by the high quality after-sales service offer.

“Service is essential when it comes to buying earthworks and production machines. CIMME Lorraine has been servicing our machines for years. We are delighted with their professionalism and quick service, whenever necessary,"states Philippe Vuillemin.

CIMME Lorraine is based in Ludres and covers the Vosges and Meurthe et Moselle regions and part of the Meuse region.
