SCORING HINTS
WAYS OF SCORING RUNS
A Run:-
A run is scored when the batsmen have crossed made good their ground from end to end.
If either batsman runs a short run ie. no ground contact is made beyond the popping crease, the umpire shall call signal one shortwhen the ball becomes dead. That run shall not be scored.
If the striker is caught then no run shall be scored.
If a batsman is run out, the run that was being attempted shall not be scored.
Penalties:-
A wide shall be signalled called if the ball passes a batsman so wide OR so high as to be out of the reach of his normal stance.
The ball does not become dead on the call of a wide.
Runs scored from a wide eg. byes shall be scored as wides.
If no runs are made a wide (one run) shall be added to the score.
The striker can be out from a wide for:-
*hit wicket
*stumped
Either batsman can be out from a wide for:-
*Run Out
*Handled Ball
*Obstructing the Field

A BYE shall be signalled called if runs are scored from a ball, not having been called No Ball or Wide, passing the striker without touching his person or bat.
A LEG BYE shall be signalled called if runs are scored from a ball that touches any part of the striker's dress or person (except the hand holding the bat), while the striker is attempting to :-
*play the ball with his bat.
*avoid being hit by the ball.
A NO BALL shall be signalled called if the bowler:-
*Throws the ball.
*Does not have part of his front foot, either grounded or raised, behind the popping crease.
*Does not ground his back foot within, but not touching, the return crease.
The ball does NOT become dead on the call of a NO BALL.
The striker may hit a NO BALL whatever runs result shall be added to a striker's score.
Any other runs made from a NO BALL eg. byes shall be scored as NO BALLS.
If no runs are made a NO BALL (one run) shall be added to the score.
The striker can be out from a NO BALL for:-
*Handled ball
*Hit ball twice
*Obstructing the field.
Either batsman can be run out from a NO BALL.

METHODS OF DISMISSAL
Bowled:-If the ball breaks the wicket, even if the ball firsttouched the bat or batsman.
Caught:-If the ball, from the stroke of the bat or of the hand holding the bat, but not the wrist, is held by a fieldsman before it touches the ground.
Handled the Ball:-If either batsman touches the ball with his hands while the ball is in play, unless it is done at the request of the opposite team.
Hit the ball twice:-Except for the sole purpose of protecting his wicket.
Hit Wicket:-If in playing at the ball or attempting a run immediately after playing at the ball, the player hits down the wicket with the bat or any part of the player's person.
Obstructing the Field:-If either batsman wilfully obstructs the other side ... if such wilful obstruction by either batsman prevents a ball from being caught it is the striker who is out.
Run Out:-If in running or at any time, while the ball is in play either batsman can be run out if the batsman is out of his ground and the wicket is broken by the fielding side with the ball or the hand holding the ball.
If the batsmen have crossed each other, the batsman that is running to the wicket that is put down is out.
If the batsmen have not crossed each other the batsman running from the wicket that is put down is out.
If the ball is played onto the opposite wicket neither batsman is liable to a run out UNLESS the ball has been touched by a fieldsman before the wicket is put down.

If the wicket is previously broken, a run out may be affected by a fieldsman by:
*remaking the wicket then breaking it in the approved manner OR
*by pulling a stump from the ground with the hand holding the ball.
Stumped:-The striker shall be out Stumped if, in receiving a ball, he is out of his ground otherwise than in attempting a run the Wicket is put down by the Wicketkeeper without the intervention of another fieldsman.
Action by the Wicketkeeper:-The Wicketkeeper may take the ball in front of the stumps in an attempt to stump the Striker only if the ball has first touched the bat or person of the Striker.
Note: Ball rebounding from the Wicketkeeper's person
The Striker may be out Stumped if in the circumstances stated in above, the wicket is broken by a ball rebounding from the Wicketkeeper's person or equipment or is kicked or thrown by the Wicketkeeper onto the wicket.
Timed Out (see law 31).
Leg Before Wicket (LBW):-Requirements. Ask these Questions !!!
*Would the ball have hit the stumps??
*Did the ball pitch on a straight line between wicket wicket ( this includes a ball intercepted full by the body of the striker) or did it pitch on the OFF side of the striker's wicket??
*Was it part of the striker's person other than the hand holding the bat which first intercepted the ball??
*Was that part of the striker's person in a straight line between wicket wicket at the moment of impact irrespective of the height of the point of impact.

UMPIRING SIGNALS
