Details of Project:
Purpose of the role: To assist in the development and delivery of a broad portfolio of fundraising events aimed at recruiting and supporting participants and to support new product development. Some of the exciting projects you will be involved in include, the London Marathon, Overseas Challenges, Celebration Giving and two of our flagship fundraising campaigns, the Pink Bake Off and £1,000 Challenge.
  • Copy Writing - assist in writing communications to event participants. This is to encourage participants to fundraise and to strengthen the relationship between Breakthrough and the participant. The stronger the relationship, the more likely they are to support Breakthrough repetitively or in other ways. This will include:
Writing e-newsletters
Writing website copy, for example to help sell places in overseas treks
Writing marketing mailings
Preparing post-event surveys to gather vital consumer opinion on the event experience
Writing social media case studies, tweets and Facebook posts
  • Representing Breakthrough – attend eventsand support the delivery of Breakthrough’s responsibilities at events and ensure that Breakthrough’s profile and reputation are enhanced.
  • Negotiation -Contact organisations by phone and in writing to negotiate the donation of gifts in kind. These are a great way of us giving something extra to our supporters at little to no cost to us.
  • Marketing – Assist with the delivery and implementation of marketing plans. This will include your own marketing project on a sporting challenge.
  • Cross team working – to assist other teams as and when required (supporter services, national campaigns and community engagement).
  • Project management –Organise and deliver the London Marathon expo.
  • Event logistics - Assist the Events Executives in creating and implementing on the day plans for ourSpring events.
  • Competitor Research –carry out ad hoc research into the events and charity markets.

Skills & Experience Required:
  • Strong writing skills
  • The ability to communicate with a variety of different audiences
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accurate record- keeping
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle various projects
  • Workload prioritisation skills
  • A confident and articulate telephone manner
  • IT experience, especially in Microsoft Package and Mail Merge
  • Database experience, in Raiser’s Edge database if possible, though full training will be provided
  • Experience with social media and websites

Presentation: you will be asked to give a presentation to your host team, providing you an opportunity to develop public speaking skills and demonstrate your learning to the team. It is also an opportunity for the team to gain an external perspective and possibly new insights into their work
