Bibliography Assignment

1)  Assignment:

Create an annotated bibliography of resources on a preparation or finishing topic. Your bibliography should contain 10 resources, including books, journal articles, and web resources. Five of these should be within the last ten years. Evaluate the resources you find, so that you include those you think are most relevant in your bibliography. Resources should be evaluated for: authority, accuracy, purpose & coverage, currency, and objectivity. Choose resources written at your level, i.e., that you can understand and that you could explain or summarize to someone else. Each item in the bibliography should be cited in APA style. Provide a brief annotation for each item in your bibliography.

2)  Procedures:

a)  Formulate your search strategy:

i)  Decide what search tools you will need to use to find information on your topic. Where do you think this kind of information will appear? Will there be books on this topic? Journal articles? Web sites?

ii)  Come up with a list of key words and phrases you should use while searching.

b)  Find books on your topic using the NCSU Libraries’ Catalog (http://catalog.lib.ncsu.edu/).

c)  Find journal articles on your topic:

i)  Select appropriate databases from the lists on the NCSU Libraries’ web site (http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/searchcollection/databases/).

ii)  Search the databases and select relevant articles.

d)  Find web resources on your topic. Conduct searches using a few different search engines. A good place to look for some new search engines (www.searchenginewatch.com).
