BGCNJ State Director Job Description

REPORTS TO:Board of Trustees

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the President of the Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey/New Jersey Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs (BGCNJ), the State Director is responsible for the overall daily management and operation of the organization in accordance with themission and goals of the organization. The State Director provides leadership, direction and support to the Board of Trustees and its member Boys & Girls Clubs in implementing strategies to reach organizational goals, attaining/allocating resources, and establishing policies set by the Board of Trustees.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guides, supports and serves the Board of Directors in establishing goals and developing policies, procedures, budgets and programs that fulfill the mission of BGCNJ.

Works closely with Board of Directors and member agencies to identify and obtain funding from private and/or public, corporate, foundation and government sources which have the potential to be shared with all or a majority of member organizations; ensures completion and timely submission of BGCNJ responses to grant applications and state issued request for proposals (RFPs).

Provides oversight and supports the effective administration of all collaborative, BGCNJ pass-thru funded programs and services provided by member organizations.

Assures management and attainment of resources necessary to ensure the financial operations of the agency are conducted in accordance with applicable laws.

Oversees and participates in staffing of the organization, including recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluation of both paid and volunteer staff.

Develops & Implements public relations activities to promote BGCNJ’s programs and impact to individuals, other service organizations, and the local community.

Provides professional leadership to the Board of Directors to assure development of an effective, informed and motivated board, including identification, recruitment, training and involvement of members in meeting the goals of the organization.

Manages all aspects of finance and reporting involved including, but not limited to, monthly/quarterly financials statements, audit readiness, bank reconciliation(s), payroll processing

Manages communication to the member organizations

Represent the common interest of the orgs to stakeholders, as directed by the Board of Directors?

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be assigned special projects periodically by the Board of Directors.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:Maintains close contact with Board of Directors, member organization professional and volunteer leaders. Standing and Ad Hoc Committees, and BGCA.

External:Maintains contact with potential and current donors, foundations, corporations, state government, and BGCNJ lobbyist

CRITERIA:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

A minimum of 8+ year’swork experience in a non-profit agency or Boys & Girls Club which included fundraising, marketing and grants management with at least 4 years in a leadership capacity

Demonstrated skills and competency in the following areas: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; the principles and practices of non-profit organizations and of management; resource development activities and sources of funding.

Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and coordinate operations in a multi-organization federation of individual 501c3 corporations.

Leadership skills including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation.

Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups and individuals.

Demonstrated competency and ability to manage, plan, develop, and articulate budgetary necessities and all applicable financial related activities and transactions

Demonstrated competency and ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officers, funders and other internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to supervise professionals and other volunteers.
