Job Title – Event Manager (Maternity Cover)

Responsible to – Chairman of Belfast City Marathon Ltd

Salary - £28,000 per annum

Based at – Marathon Office, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Upper Malone Road, Belfast, BT17 9LA

Working Week – 37 hours per week

One year contract only

1.0 Main Purpose of Job

To be responsible for the implementation, delivery and management of the Belfast City Marathon and Belfast City Half Marathon according to the Company’s Business Plan.

The post holder will be expected to provide managerial guidance to administrative, marketing and technical duties relative to Belfast City Marathon/Belfast City Half Marathon whilst managing a team.

2.0 Job Description

- To be responsible for the design and management of all artwork, merchandise and other items related to the Belfast City Marathon/Belfast City Half Marathon.

- To provide management of all administrative systems including the official online entry system.

- To support and manage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

- To be accountable for the management and implementation of all financial systems directly associated to the Belfast City Marathon/Belfast City Half Marathon in a bid to meet targets.

- To monitor and manage all funding applications relevant to the events.

- To be responsible for the ongoing management, recruitment, supervision and coaching of staff and volunteers.

- To manage the implementation of the strategic marketing plan and any other promotional activities in a bid to increase participation numbers.

- To be responsible for the management of the official event website including all maintenance and updates.

- To be liable for the design, implementation and management of all race weekend activities associated with the Belfast City Marathon/Belfast City Half Marathon.

- To be in charge of the planning and administration of all Board, Technical and Marketing meetings.

- To undertake duties in such a way (including weekends and evenings) as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of Belfast City Marathon.

- To undertake such other duties as from time to time may be required.

Employee Specification

1.0 Qualifications

Applicants must have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Events Management, Marketing, Business Management or Sports Studies.

2.0 Experience

Essential Criteria

2.1 Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have at least two years full time (or part time equivalent) relevant experience gained in managing and implementing large public events.

2.2 Demonstrable experience of managing budgets, reaching targets and dealing with financial processes.

2.3 Demonstrable experience of managing staff, external stakeholders and volunteers.

2.4 Demonstrable experience of delivering excellent customer care.

2.5 Evidence of managing multi-facetted customer facing operations effectively in pressurised circumstances.

2.6 Experience of working with the public.

Desirable Criteria

2.7 Demonstrable experience of four years full time (or part time equivalent) in an event management role.

2.8 Demonstrable that any (minimum of two years) event experience is associated with a major sporting event.

3.0 Special Skills and Attributes

Essential Criteria

3.1 Knowledge of budget management.

3.2 Knowledge of the events industry in Northern Ireland in particular sporting events.

3.3 Knowledge of content management systems for company website.

3.4 Excellent organisational, planning and operational management skills.

3.5 Excellent verbal and communication skills.

3.6 Excellent copywriting skills.

3.7 Competent and confident in the use of standard IT packages (Microsoft Office).

3.8 Ability to innovate, motivate and be creative whilst managing a team.

3.9 Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

3.10 Demonstrable success in leadership, motivation and team building.

4.0 Circumstances

Essential Criteria

4.1 Must be able to work additional hours, some of which may be at weekends, evenings or at short notice.

4.2 Hold a full current driving licence to drive within Northern Ireland and access to a form of transport, which will permit the post holder to meet all the requirements of the post in full.
