1. PLACEMENT CENTER: SOUTH SENCHI L/A SCHOOL

Position Description:
South Senchi L/A Schools provide an education for children ages 5 to 17, in South Senchi and its surrounding areas. The school provides an academic education for kindergarten, primary and junior high students. Because it is located in a rural area obtaining adequate teaching staff is difficult.
South Senchi L/A School desirers to have teachers for the kindergarten, basic (primary 1-6) across to the Junior High. A special request for ICT teachers are needed since there are ICT study periods in their school but they lack teachers with computer skills to teach the course. The school is seeking volunteer computer teachers as well who would teach the students, as well as some of their teachers’ computer skills.
The school is lack of teachers in various subjects due to lack of teachers to be posted to such areas. Volunteer teacher will therefore reduce the burden on the few teachers here who would have to teach more than the number of classes and loaded subjects within the day causing them not to be able to complete their syllabus within the term.
SUBJECTS TO TEACH
South Senchi L /A Primary School needs teachers to teach the following subjects as Math, Integrated Science, English, Social Studies, Religious and Moral, and Creative Arts.
A volunteer teacher would be expected to cover the basic responsibilities of any teacher such as: creating lesson plans; evaluating student performances and then giving out of projects and assignments. They also may be expected to take part in developing a teaching curriculum.
Teachers must be mature individuals who possess basic knowledge and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:
Kindergarten Section
They are between the ages of 4 to 7.This stream requires a lot of attention, creativity and more activities due to the fact that they are not very matured to learn in abstract.
Volunteer teacher here will be required to create a lot of learning activities such as basic poetry recitals, pick and acts, drawings, arts and crafts, sportsetc. to get such pupils involved and to aid them to learn effectively. Most of these activities will mostly be based on the syllabus provided in other to be related to what must be taught. This will guide the volunteer teacher on what to do.
Basic section (primary 1-6)
They are mostly between the ages of 7-13.this group are a bit matured and are believed to have graduate more into learning to begin to study academically. The volunteer teacher will be required o also set a lesson plan to teach. In Ghana, these classes mostly have one teacher to a class who teaches all subjects all through. But due to language barrier, volunteer teacher will have a support staff teacher so the subjects will be shared and rotated till the volunteering period is over. The volunteer teacher will be known as a class teacher. Volunteer teachers are advised to give notes on any topic in any subject to be taught and give assignments.
Junior High Section
These are mostly the matured group in the school mostly between the ages of 13-17.this is where studies are mostly intensified. A volunteer teacher here teaches with a well structured and detailed lesson plan that takes pupils to the core of every topic. Each subject to be taught must come with a note to be delivered for the pupils to copy and use ass referrals during their personal studies. Volunteer teacher here is known as a subject teacher since one teacher teaches only a specific subject. Volunteer teacher may be required by the school to teach more than one subject for different classes. Volunteer teachers are required to give assignments and projects and also organize practical section in subjects as science and physical education.
Computer Course
The school wishes to have a unit focused on using the internet. A volunteer computer teacher would be expected to teach general browser use, email and effective searching.
A volunteer computer teacher should be able to help students understand the subject matter in the simplest way possible. Volunteers would be expected to plan a computer course or follow a computer course outline if one has already been development and implemented. When the volunteer's time is finished at this placement he/she should have left a clear plan for further computer studies to be followed by the current staff or future volunteers.
Classroom Discipline
As a volunteer teacher you would be expected to be a mature individual who can manage and keep control of a classroom of teenage students. The volunteer would be expected to handle student behavior issues in accordance with the school's policies.
Technical Problems
A volunteer computer teacher should be able to solve at least minor technical problems that may occur inside the lab. Troubleshooting knowledge is the most basic skill that a volunteer should possess.

2. PLACEMENT CENTER: NEW SENCHI CLINIC

Position Description:
The New Senchi Clinic in the suburbs of Asougyaman district would like medical staff such as (opticians, dermatologists, med students, nurses, student nurses), to come and volunteer in their facility. They realize that exchanging medical technology with foreign volunteers would be beneficial to both parties and also provide them with extra assistance that they need.
Due to shortageof these specialized practitioners and adequate nursing/medical staff, the health practitioners at the facility are not able to provide all the care necessary for the patients, without doing many hours of overtime each week. Nursing student volunteers could do much to relieve this stressful situation.
The nursing/medical student volunteers would be asked to help in several areas,(depending on their qualification and experience), such as: skin tests, eye screening, diagnosing, attending to patients various needs, giving prescribed medications to those whom require it, consulting with patients about their current situation and what to do to help reduce risk.
Nursing/medical student volunteers may be asked to work in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or in the HIV/AIDS and Family Planning division. Student nurses would be expected to assist with administrative duties as well, be it updating patients files or recording of current medical data etc.
The scope of a nursing/medical student's experience at this facility is vast and he/she could not only enhance their medical knowledge but also provide assistance in a very worthwhile endeavor.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:
Counseling
A nursing or medical studentvolunteer may be asked to assist staff in the counseling of patients in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or at the HIV/AIDS or Family Planning division.
Administrative Duties
A nursing/medical student volunteer would be expected to assist the staff in keeping patients files current and also contributing their help with other administrative tasks within the facility such as updating medical information in their systems or the filing of data when necessary.
Education Seminars
A nursing/medical student volunteer may be asked to assist in the development and implementation of educational seminars in the community or also be asked to assist in the development of outreach programs in aspects of health care such as: HIV/AIDS, malaria, family planning or information regarding the national health insurance coverage. The health volunteers have the privilege to learn Ghanaian national health insurance policy.
Public Health Aids
this is mainly with the specialties like the dermatologist and the optometry sections where they will organize special screening exercises and skin tests for the community. Coupled with education and seminars.

Requirements:
This position mostly requires technicalities for the specialist section eg. Dermatology, Optometry and the others.

Volunteer teacher must therefore be up to task to prepare enough activities to get them involved, since this is part of child developmental stage. Mostly ladies are preferred in this section since it is believed that they can cater for children more. This section is more or less like being a nanny or mother to the child.
