The Peoples Bus:

Our Lady Day-Care Centre Ballylanders first opened its doors to members of the community in October 1988. Wednesday and Friday are dedicated to the older members of the community, when they can come enjoy a freshly cooked wholesome dinner and socialise with friends. Not every older person has access to a car and therefore our Day-Care Centre bus travels far and wide into the local community collecting those who don’t from their own front door. The bus is wheelchair accessible. For some who avail of the service Wednesday and or Friday might be the only day/s when they can come to the village, buy their few messages, visit the post-office and indeed chat with friends. The current bus which is now 12 years old needs to be replaced. A new bus will cost approximately €60,000 which will require a huge fund-raising effort from within the community. Our aim is to raise the money before the end of the year so that the bus travelling the high-ways and by-ways next January will read: 181 L.
