We Have Arrived, Albeit Seemingly Quickly, at the End of Another Term and What a Final

Ickford News

We have arrived, albeit seemingly quickly, at the end of another term and what a final day it has been. This morning’s mile for Sport Relief was a great success and I am very proud of all of the children. Everyone completed their mile (many ran more) with a smile on their face and a spring in their step and all of us present witnessed a real sense of community and collective spirit. I know I do not have to tell you that there are many children in need around the world, not just in distant lands or parts of Africa, but also in this country and indeed in our own locality. I hope that any money we have raised can go towards making their lives a little better. If you have raised money through sponsorship, could you please hand it in to the office after the Easter break in an envelope marked ‘Sport Relief’. I would just like to add my thanks to the PTA for providing refreshments and to all those parents who came along to watch, support and marshal.

Last week I accompanied Year 5 and 6 children on their residential week at PGL Marchant’s Hill in Surrey. What a fantastic week this was and what a pleasure it was to accompany such well behaved and enthusiastic children. There were many opportunities to learn new things, face new challenges and to support each other and the children distinguished themselves throughout the week in their achievements. My thanks go to the teaching staff, Miss Gouldstone, Miss Newell and Mr Cashman, who gave up their comfortable beds and families for a week and helped to ensure that the children were kept safe and happy.

Whilst we were away, the rest of the school had a ‘Castles’ themed week and judging by the stories I have heard and the pictures I have seen, it was another huge success. I have heard that a certain member of the Royal Family made an appearance at assembly accompanied by two corgis and ‘Knighted’ several of the children. I am slightly worried that Mrs Grafham may get used to being treated as royalty and become rather demanding but nevertheless thank her for organising a great week and thank all of the staff and parents who made the trip to Warwick Castle and the Royal Banquet such memorable occasions.

We have had more sporting success this week and I am delighted to report that our Year 5/6 football team beat Quainton 5 – 0. This is a huge result considering

Quainton arrived with a very large pool of players and are notoriously competitive and generally successful. We are now looking forward to trying to emulate last year’s success in the County Cup at the ASM stadium in May.

I now have to go and hide Easter eggs for this afternoons ‘hunt’. I have bought enough eggs for two each so I am hoping I may be able to persuade a poor unsuspecting child to part with a little chocolate. After my mile this morning I am in need of sustenance!

I hope that you all have a peaceful and happy Easter Holiday.

Names in Uniform

I know that this message is constantly repeated but we really do have a major problem in school uniting children with their items of clothing, sports kit and shoes on a daily basis. We do try and return anything that has been dropped or left around the site but it is very, very difficult when things do not have names in them. Please take a small amount of time to ensure that your child’s name is in everything they wear in school including shoes and trainers.

A Plea from Mrs Baker...

Could you please save any Pringles tubes and deliver to school after the Easter break. We need around 55 to ensure, enough for all the children in Classes 1 and 2.

From the School Office

Please note that term starts again at 9am on Monday 16th April 2012. Please remember that all children are expected to arrive in Summer Uniform. Details can be found on the school website.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter Break!
