NEW ROUND OF FELLOWSHIP AND GRANTS ISSUED BY THE FOUNDATION

The Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Board of the Kidney & Urology Foundation of America, Inc. have issued their most recent round of fellowships and grants. Grants and fellowships, totaling more than $850,000 have been issued to 29 applicants. The Foundation has supported more than 400 fellows since 1949 with grants exceeding $15 million. The Foundation annually issues grants in Clinical Fellowship, Research Fellowship, Young Investigator Awards, and Career Development Awards.

CHAIR NAMED TO SPORTS MARKETING AND PHILANTHROPY COMMITTEE

Long time KUF Board member Eddie Einhorn, co-owner of the Chicago White Sox and a minority owner of the Chicago Bulls has accepted the appointment as Chair of the Foundation’s newly formed National Sports Marketing and Philanthropy Committee. Mr. Einhorn, a well-known figure in sports management, marketing, and entertainment, has been a member of the KUF Board for the last decade. The committee, under his leadership, will seek to develop fundraising opportunities through events and programming with a sports flavor. The funding in turn will be directed toward building public awareness of prostate and kidney diseases, in addition to funding research, professional education and providing patient support. Mr. Einhorn a kidney transplant recipient, has also successfully overcome prostate cancer.

KUF FUNDS PRESTIGIOUS VALENTINE RESIDENT MEETING IN UROLOGY
The Kidney & Urology Foundation of America, Inc., in keeping with its commitment to research and education in kidney and urology, will sponsor the annual Valentine Essay Meeting at the Academy of Medicine on March 26th. The sponsorship is made possible through a donation from Sanofi Synthelabo and the Eligard brand. The Valentine Essay Meeting, a daylong event, is considered one of the focal points of the annual calendar of research and study in urology. More than 150 residents and attending urologists will attend the event, from which nine winning essays will be selected. The event is organized by the American Urological Association, New York Section, but is open to residents nationally.
FLORIDA, GEORGIA AND NEW JERSEY NEXT STAGES FOR WALK SERIES

The Kidney & Urology Foundation’s National Walk Series will add events in 2003 in Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey. The Walk series, a significant tool is funding Foundation research, education, and patient support, is also geared toward building public awareness. Walks are held each year to support awareness of the crisis in organ and tissue donation as well as the need for greater focus on prostate health. Three new Walk the Walk events for Prostate Awareness will be introduced in New Jersey in September. Additionally, sites for new Walk the Walk for Organ and TissueDonation events will be selected in Miami, Tampa, and Atlanta.
